The 103-room Hotel Molina Lario, which consists of two refurbished 19th-century buildings with their original facades, and one modern building, is a four-pearl, mid-range hotel near the harbor in Malaga. While the location isn't on the water, the port is within walking distance. A rooftop pool and bar offer great views of the city and its famous cathedral, which sits opposite the hotel, while Cafe de Bolsa serves a buffet-style breakfast and Spanish items a la carte for lunch and dinner, either indoors or on the gorgeous terrace.
Scene
A relaxed design hotel in Malaga
The lobby inside Hotel Molina Lario is modern with attention paid to design. Marble floors and white walls are lit from above by giant canned light fixtures. Club chairs, dark wooden coffee tables, and sofas have clean lines but the white leather on the chairs and sofas looks a bit dirty and worn. The rooftop swimming pool is chic and clean. White daybeds and cushioned sofas make it an attractive place to relax and admire views of the water and city.
Location
Next to the harbor in Malaga
The Hotel Molina Lario isn't a beachfront hotel but the water is about a five-minute walk from the property's front doors. The neighborhood is bustling and tourist-friendly with a plethora of restaurants, shops, and cultural sights, such as the Picasso Museum. The famous cathedral of Malaga is a one-minute walk from the hotel.
Rooms
103 modern and stylish rooms with hardwood floors -- and whiskey
Rooms at the Hotel Molina Lario look new, with clean lines and black, white, and gray color palettes. The Deluxe, Junior Suite and Superior Rooms have couches with additional seating areas. Flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and fully stocked minibars are a nice touch in all the room types, but the real treat is a decanter of whiskey with a package of peanuts as a welcome gift. Bathrooms are spacious with full bathtubs. Some of the furniture looks a little scratched, though, and guests in rooms directly above the hotel's restaurant have complained about noise.
Features
Rooftop swimming pool and dining under the stars
The Hotel Molina Lario makes excellent use of its eighth floor, with a rooftop terrace and swimming pool complete with a small bar -- not to mention sweeping views of the city and nearby port. Some guests have complained of irregular pool and bar hours. Cafe de Bolsa has a chic indoor dining room and outdoor seating with intimate nooks on white banquettes. There isn't a staffed business center, but there is a small library with two desktop computers and a printer. Fully equipped event and meeting rooms are also available.
