The 44 rooms are well-maintained and modern, featuring minibars, flat-screen TVs, and desks, plus tiny Juliet-style balconies in some. Some past guests have complained of poor air-conditioning, however. Amenities are limited, consisting of a seasonal outdoor pool, furnished sundeck with pleasant vistas, and a simple continental breakfast buffet. There are no full restaurant, fitness facilities, or kid-centric amenities. Families may prefer the beachfront Tryp Guadalmar, which has big outdoor pools and a gym.
Scene
Contemporary, central hotel with quiet atmosphere
In the heart of Malaga sits this small, contemporary property. While the surrounding streets are packed with restaurants, bars, and top sights, the hotel is quiet and offers a respite for tourists after a day of sightseeing. Decor at Exe Malaga Museos is largely modern and follows a red, black, and brown color scheme. Deep reds are found in lobby couches, room throw pillows, and artwork, though the overall look is a bit generic. While a top-floor pool and sundeck are available, there's little on-site for kids, and the hotel largely attracts couples on vacation.
Location
Convenient and central location near top sights
For guests who like to explore on foot, Exe Malaga Museos is a great starting point. Walking in any direction from the hotel, guests will find something to see or do, and somewhere eat. The area is brimming with entertainment, dining, and shopping options. Plaza de la Constitución is a two-minute walk, Picasso Museum Málaga is seven minutes, and Malaga Cathedral is a five-minute stroll. Beach-lovers will be happy to know that Playa de la Malagueta can be reached on foot in 20 minutes, or by car in about 12 minutes. The Moorish Castillo Gibralfaro ruins are a 29-minute walk (15-minute drive). Malaga Airport is a 25-minute drive, or about 40 minutes via public transportation -- the Malaga Centre Mall train station is a 10-minute walk away.
Rooms
Well-maintained, contemporary rooms with all the basics
Guest rooms at Exe Malaga Museos are comfortable and well-kept, outfitted in a contemporary style consistent with common areas. Most have white wood floors, dark laminate wood furniture, burnt-orange accent walls with red-and-black artwork, brown blankets and drapes, and red throw pillows. Some have black wood furniture, white tufted headboards with blue backlighting, and wavy print bed runners. Some have tiny Juliet balconies, while all have free Wi-Fi, minibars, desks, flat-screen TVs, and open closets with electronic safes (free to use). Air-conditioning is provided, but some past guests have found it insufficient. Compact bathrooms are modern and come with shower/tub combos or small stall showers, plus wall-mounted hairdryers and toiletries.
Features
No fitness or spa facilities, but seasonal pool and continental breakfast
Exe Malaga Museos does not offer many on-site features, as there are no fitness center, full restaurant, or spa facilities. It does offer a seasonal, decently sized pool on the upper level of the hotel, but views are obstructed. Up some stairs is the solarium, which has better vistas and is furnished with sunbeds, umbrellas, and lounge chairs.
