Universal Hotel Marques

Part of the Universal chain, Hotel Marques is a beachfront hotel with a palm tree-lined entrance and spectacular sea views. The lobby is bright and airy with a large glass door, tiled flooring, and neutral-colored furniture. The hotel has fresh and simple decor throughout that includes flower arrangements, art pieces, and a wall-size beach photograph. The dining area has a slightly dated look with old wicker chairs and cushions, though it's still bright and spacious and the underwater fish motif adds a fun touch. The restaurant includes indoor seating, as well as outdoor seating on the terrace with wonderful sea views. The views are just as beautiful from the outdoor swimming pool area, though surrounding sun loungers and umbrellas come with an additional weekly fee. The overall atmosphere is relaxed. The resort mostly attracts older couples looking for some peace and quiet.

Hotel Marques has one of the most stunning locations along the south coast of Mallorca, as it's located on a small, private beach directly in front of the hotel and a few minutes' walk to Es Trenc, one of the most popular beaches on the island. The location is otherwise quiet, with just a handful of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The nearby fishing village of Colonia de Sant Jordi is a 13-minute walk and has more restaurants, cafes, and bars, and it serves as a departure point for excursions to Cabrera, a maritime terrestrial park. It's a 49-minute drive to the islands' capital of Palma. There are three bus stops in Colonia de Sant Jordi, with the closest (Primavera) just a six-minute walk from the hotel. Palma Airport is 45 minutes’ drive from the hotel and an airport transfer can be organized upon request for an additional fee.

The 191 guest rooms at Hotel Marques have a bright and modern look, and a motif that pays homage to the nearby ocean. The lightly tiled floors, white-and-aqua-blue walls, white linens, and neutral-colored hardwood furniture give the rooms a fresh look. Decor includes blue throw cushions, patterned bed runners, and sea-themed artwork. All rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, telephones, and desks -- a safe and Wi-Fi are available for additional fees. Most rooms have furnished balconies, some with unobstructed sea views. Bathrooms include either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and Universal brand toiletries are provided.

Hotel Marques has a good selection of features available, though unfortunately some come with additional fees. The large outdoor swimming pool, with surrounding sun loungers and umbrellas, overlooks the beach. There are also sun loungers and parasols set up on the beach for guests' use. 

A free continental buffet breakfast is available, along with a la carte lunches, snacks, and dinners in the on-site restaurant. Half-board rates are available. Gala buffet dinners are held every Friday. The fitness center offers a limited selection of cardio and weight-training equipment, along with yoga mats. 

Other on-site activities include billiards, table tennis, darts, and a basketball court. There's evening entertainment as well as a kids' club during high season (July through August). From March to May there are guided hiking tours. The hotel can assist with car, bicycle, and motorbike rental as well as offer an airport shuttle (for an additional fee). Guests should note that there isn't any on-site parking, though limited free street parking is available. Additional services include 24-hour reception, a tour desk, luggage storage, currency exchange, and laundry service. Expect extra fees for Wi-Fi, use of the internet corner, pool towels, poolside and beach sun loungers, and use of the games facilities.
