Bottom Line

The four-pearl Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is a boutique property set in a meticulously renovated 19th-century mansion. It overlooks Sant Francesc Church in the center of Palma's old town. The 42 beautifully designed rooms all have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and gourmet minibars. All rooms also include perks like Nespresso machines. A rooftop pool and terrace with a sushi bar has wonderful church views, while Quadrat serves Mediterranean cuisine. There’s a bar on the ground floor as well, plus a full-service spa and 24-hour fitness center. Previous guests love the courtyard for sipping coffees and cocktails day or night. Prices are in keeping with an upscale property, but visitors wanting more of a party vibe may try Hotel Puro instead, where rates are lower.

Scene

Historic Mallorcan retreat with an intimate, romantic vibe

This 42-room boutique hotel is housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century mansion and has plenty of classically-inspired modern style. The interior courtyard is the heart of the hotel, and can be used for dining or relaxing. It's just a few steps away from a stylish lobby bar and restaurant, serving drinks, meals, and snacks, including tapas. In fact, there are numerous dining and drinking spots throughout this hotel, which make it a fine place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The beautiful rooftop terrace, with its pool and intimate sushi bar, offers views of the surrounding square and provides a secluded spot to take in the peaceful city views. Quadrat, the hotel's restaurant, draws locals, tourists, and hotel guests alike. Given the Singular's overall romantic vibe and old-town location, it's no surprise that it mostly draws couples.

Location

In the heart of Palma's old town, overlooking Sant Francesc Church

The hotel is set on picturesque cobblestone Plaza Sant Francesc, in the center of Palma's old town and overlooking the stunning church of the same name. Its location means that the property is just around the corner from lots of upmarket stores, cafes, and restaurants, and is just a seven-minute walk from the city's famous cathedral. It's also a six-minute walk to the pretty main square, Placa Major. Passeig del Born, the city's exclusive shopping street, can be reached on foot in 10 minutes, as can the marina. Palma de Mallorca's airport (PMI) is a 15-minute car or cab ride away, or around 30 minutes by public bus. Airport transfers can be arranged through the hotel (for a fee).

Rooms

Sleek and sharp Mallorcan elegance, with Nespresso machines, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and minibars

The hotel has 42 rooms, including 12 suites. Regardless of category, all have an effortless modern style that's heavily influenced by classic design choices. You can expect to see lots of handsome neutral tones, high ceilings, the occasional exposed wooden beam, and even original frescos on some ceilings. King beds are enhanced with Egyptian cotton linens and fat throw pillows, and furniture is sleek throughout. Even entry-level Superior Rooms have seating areas plus work desks and thoughtful accessories -- such as books and flowers -- that give rooms a polished, homey feel. All rooms feature large flat-screen TVs (between 45 and 52 inches) with satellite channels, plus free Wi-Fi, minibars stocked with gourmet local produce, air-conditioning, safes, and Nespresso coffeemakers. The nightly turndown service with chocolates is a nice touch. Some higher-category units come with wireless Bluetooth speakers. Others have small private terraces, and top-floor suites can be booked together to give visitors complete private access to the entire floor. Bathrooms include large walk-in rainfall showers or free-standing tubs plus ample counter space, free premium toiletries, and hairdryers. Egyptian cotton towels and bathrobes are provided.

Features

Chic rooftop pool and patio, Mediterranean restaurant, full spa, and lobby bar

This boutique property manages to pack in quite a few features, including a varied breakfast each morning, which can be eaten in the restaurant or on the rooftop terrace in warmer weather. However, it's not included in the nightly rates. The restaurant is also open for lunches and evening meals, serving Mediterranean cuisine (reservations are required). There’s also a sushi bar and dining area on the roof. Tables and chairs are arranged beneath a pretty covered rooftop patio, which offers a more secluded area to relax, and sits alongside a small swimming pool. The lobby, with its chess-board tile floor and nooks for reading and relaxing, has a small lounge bar, and leads to a tree-lined outdoor patio. A full-service spa is on-site, offering a range of treatments, such as massages and facials, and these can be booked in advance by contacting the hotel. Reception staff can assist with organizing tickets, excursions, and airport transfers (for a fee). Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
