Bottom Line

Protur Biomar Gran Hotel & Spa is second to none in eastern Majorca. Stylish, elegant rooms have upscale amenities, balconies or terraces, and wonderful bathrooms with rainfall showers and separate soaking tubs (in most). The huge spa is the highlight here, with several treatment rooms, a salon, and an expansive hydrotherapy area that guests can access for free. The pools, kids’ club, and dozens of daily on-site activities are great perks for families, while the adult-only pool with swim-up bar is a relaxing spot for a lazy day. There are five dining options, and a half-board option is available, but there are extra fees for non-buffet restaurants. The location an easy walk from the beach is a plus. The upscale Protur Sa Coma Playa Hotel & Spa has lower rates and all-inclusive options, but the spa facilities are not free.

Medium-size luxury hotel with resort-like amenities

Protur Biomar Gran Hotel & Spa is the most luxurious of the Protur properties in Sa Coma, which include two resort-type hotels and four properties with apartment-style accommodations. They’re all in the same complex, a short walk from the beach, but the Biomar has the best rooms, atmosphere, and amenities. Although it can get busy in peak season, the property oozes a somewhat more serene and elegant vibe than its sister properties, with manicured grounds dotted with palm trees and bushes, and large pools with lots of loungers. The airy lobby is housed in a low angular building topped with a large skylight and wooden ceilings. It has several black and fuchsia couches, but it's a transit place rather than a space where guests linger due to its location -- a little away from the rooms and other common areas. Large windows make the space bright and sunny, while tear-shaped ceiling lamps flanking the front desk are contemporary touches. The overall feel is stylish and elegant, and this atmosphere continues in the rest of the property. A straw-roof poolside bar is the most casual gathering space, though its wood floor and dark woven barstools lend sophistication. Guests are mostly families and couples who spend most of their time relaxing around the pools or at the beach nearby.

Location

Surrounded by other hotels in a quiet part of Sa Coma

The hotel is located right off the country road connecting Cala Millor and Sa Coma. Immediately adjacent to it are three of its sister properties, as well as a number of other hotels and a supermarket a little down the road (about five minutes' walk). Central Sa Coma, a quiet town with a few bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops, is just a quick walk away, and the nearest beach can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. Some guests walk to Calla Millor's sandy beach, located 20 minutes from the property, but the hike can be challenging as there isn't much shade along the way. A 15-minute drive south are the famous Dragon Caves, home to some stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Palma and the airport are about an hour's drive away.

Rooms

Elegant rooms with upscale amenities and balconies

The hotel’s 216 rooms are spacious and sunny, with large windows opening to small furnished balconies or wooden decks with loungers and comfy patio furniture. Units are stylish and elegant, with a smoky gray palette with brown hues and a few tan touches, and laminate floors. Most Standard Rooms have a somewhat more cheerful decor style in a soft neutral palette with fresh fuchsia accents in headboards, pillows, and chairs. Pillow menus are a nice touch, as are unusual black-and-white prints, and large round mirrors hanging on the walls. All rooms have stocked minibars and electric kettles for tea and coffee. However, the flat-screen TVs are a tad small for a luxury hotel (except in suites), and king-size beds are actually two twin-size beds pushed together. Light wooden armoires hold robes and slippers, as well as safes and ironing facilities. Bathrooms are spacious and upscale, with large walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, separate deep soaking tubs (except in standard Twin Rooms), and heated towel racks. Swim-up units have spacious terraces with direct access to a long, skinny heated pool. Each Duplex Suite has two bedrooms and two living rooms, as well as a kitchenette and two terraces, one with a hot tub

Features

Five restaurants, three pools, a spa, a fitness center, and lots of on-site activities

The hotel has five dining options, including buffet, Asian, and Italian restaurants, plus a grill and a restaurant serving signature gourmet cuisine. The excellent buffet is the only one included in half-board rates, and there is a fee for dining in any of the others. There are also a pub and a piano bar. A large freeform pool with a couple of small slides for kids is the busiest part of the property during the day. There is also an adult-only pool a little away from the hustle and bustle, and a smaller indoor pool for colder days. The spa is the property’s most outstanding feature, with a large hydrotherapy area, several treatment rooms (including some for couples), and a beauty salon. Each guest gets one free round of hydrotherapy per night's stay (age 16 and up only). The fitness center offers a wide array of cardio and strength-training machines in a pleasant room with laminate floors and large windows. Those looking to get a full workout outdoors can choose from a wide array of on-site sports facilities, including 18 tennis, padel, and squash courts, a mini-golf course, an archery range, and loaner bikes. The kids’ club offers daily indoor and outdoor activities, as well as a kiddy pool and a small playground, and there is family-friendly entertainment every evening at the bar. The hotel also has eight meeting rooms and an auditorium for larger events of up to 435 people. All room rates include free Wi-Fi, free parking, and free buffet breakfast.
