With 532 rooms, sprawling lush grounds, and tons of on-site activities, the mid-range PortBlue Club Pollentia is a large Caribbean-style resort popular with families and couples. Aside from all the expected features of a mega-resort -- including a fitness center, a spa, a kids’ club, and plenty of outdoor fun -- the hotel has a quieter adult-only area with its own pool and restaurant. Renovated rooms have a fresh, contemporary feel, with laminate floors and clean lines. But non-renovated units are basic and dated. Beachgoers may want to consider adult-only Hotel Astoria Playa, or family-friendly Hoposa Uyal Hotel.
Scene
Sprawling resort with separate family-friendly and adult-only areas
Despite its large size, the PortBlue Club Pollentia is easy to miss. It is located right off the main road connecting Port de Pollenca and Alcudia, but the large stone arch marking the entrance is partly hidden behind a manicured driveway with grass and trees. The hotel’s 532 rooms are housed in dozens of small buildings spread out across the thousands of square feet of lush grounds, which makes the setting feel somewhat quieter than could be expected of a resort this size. Wooden and stone paths wind through lawns full of flowers, palm trees, and Mediterranean trees. Ponds with rocks and flowers lend the grounds a serene feel. The resort is divided into two separate areas, each with different vibes and features. The family-friendly section is busy and loud during peak season, with a large lagoon-style pool, a buffet restaurant, and most of the other hotel facilities. The adult-only area has a more relaxing atmosphere, with a quieter, smaller pool and an a la carte restaurant. Formerly the Club Pollentia Resort, the hotel was rebranded in 2015 and underwent renovations while remaining under the same ownership. So far, Village Plus Rooms are the only units that have been updated, but some common spaces now have fresh coats of paint and new furniture.
Location
In a seafront area a 10-minute drive from Port de Pollenca and Port d’Alcudia
The hotel is located right off the main road connecting Port de Pollenca and Alcudia. Although the property is across the road from the sea, there is no beach here, and only a narrow strip of rocks give access to the water. However, few people swim here, and the nearest beaches are a 10-minute drive away in either direction. Pollenca and Alcudia, home to several historic sights and dozens of restaurants, are each a 10- to 15-minute drive away. Cap Formentor, a stunning lookout point high above the sea, can be reached in about 45 minutes. Palma and the airport are 40 minutes’ drive from the hotel. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel, and the property offers free shuttle service to Port Pollenca and a few nearby beaches.
Rooms
Clean, sunny rooms with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and balconies
The hotel has 532 rooms, all with furnished balconies or terraces, and garden views. Some Village units, including the Village Plus options, were renovated in 2015 and have a fresh feel, with laminate floors, contemporary wooden furniture, clean lines, and cute green-and-white bed runners and accent pillows with geometric prints. The rest of the room types, however, are basic and somewhat dated, with thin bedspreads in yellow or blue hues, simple wooden furniture, and off-white tile floors. Standard amenities are average for a mid-range hotel, and include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges stocked with two bottles of water, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. All rooms have two twins pushed together instead of a double or queen-size bed, and safes are available for a fee. Bathrooms have beige tiling, shower/tub combos, and hotel-brand toiletries. Some of the Maris units have sofa beds to accommodate a third person, and Suites have separate living areas and bedrooms.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pools, three restaurants, a spa, a fitness center, and plenty of on-site activities
The hotel has two large pools, a family-friendly lagoon-style one in the central part of the property, and an adult-only pool with underwater loungers in a quieter section. There are plenty of loungers around each of them, and the main pool has a bar directly above the water. Additionally, there's a smaller kiddy pool with water features and fun plastic decor. There's also an indoor pool. Denario Restaurant serves a varied buffet spread for all three meals, and has a terrace with tables for alfresco dining. Adult-only Ancora Restaurant offers a la carte Mediterranean cuisine for breakfast and dinner, and a bar with outdoor seating. Grill Aquarius serves lunch and has a bar. A whirlpool, several treatment rooms, a sauna, and a steam room are available at the spa, and the fitness center has a wide array of cardio and strength-training machines. A spacious kids’ club has lots of daily activities for children up to age 12, and babysitting services are available for an extra fee. The hotel also has daily entertainment, tennis, squash and volleyball courts, a soccer field, bocce ball, archery, bike rentals, and a putting green, among many other on-site activities. Free Wi-Fi, free outdoor parking, free buffet breakfast (with some rates), and free shuttle to the beach are all great perks. Although the property is mostly geared toward families and couples, five fully equipped meeting rooms are convenient for business travelers.
