Bottom Line

Located atop a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, the 121-room Jumeirah Port Soller is one of the most luxurious hotels in Majorca. It has a number of wonderful features for families -- including a pool and a kids’ club -- but the property also offers adult-only amenities and areas for those looking to get away from it all. Rooms are sophisticated and airy, with a soft earth-tone palette and large bathrooms with soaking tubs. The fitness center, the views, and the pools are all top-notch, but the highlight at the Jumeirah is the spa, complete with a large outdoor pool with underwater jetted loungers and mountain views. The Gran Hotel Soller, a 19th-century property in walking distance to historic and cultural sights, is another luxury option to consider, though its rates are a bit higher and its setting less stunning than Jumeirah's.

Scene

Quiet, sophisticated hotel with stunning sea and sunset views

Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa stands largely unrivaled when it comes to luxury in Majorca. Interiors are sophisticated and elegant without feeling overdone. Clean lines, muted colors, and dark wood furniture make for sleek yet refined spaces, while floor-to-ceiling windows bring the stunning outdoors in. Guest enter the lobby through a tall, watchtower-like building with long, skinny windows, a dramatic dark staircase, and a glass roof. The centerpiece of this space is a stunning spiral lamp with dozens of small lights simulating candles. The main reception area features uncluttered seating clusters with an off-white color scheme and a few carved-wood pieces of furniture. Coffered ceilings, wooden floors, and a tiled wall covered in delicate blue and yellow flower motifs add some local charm to the front desk area. The grounds are quiet and relaxing, with palm trees and Mediterranean pines, and the sea and the mountains as the backdrop. Guests with mobility issues may find the long paths and numerous stairs uncomfortable, but there are several sets of elevators that can make moving around easier. Guests are mainly couples drawn to the secluded, romantic feeling of the property. Lots of families stay here, too, as there are plenty of kid-friendly features.

Location

On a cliff a little away from central Port Soller

Perched on a cliff above the Mediterranean, the hotel feels remote and serene. The immediate vicinity is mostly residential, with a couple dozen of homes and one or two hotels, but little else. Port Soller and the beach are about a 10-minute walk away, but the way back from town may be challenging, as the hotel is situated at the top of a long, steep hill. The hotel offers free shuttle service to Port Soller several times a day, allowing for easy access to the town’s many restaurants as well as to the streetcar running between picturesque Soller and the beach. The Palma de Mallorca Airport and Palma are both a 35- to 40-minute drive away.

Rooms

Stylish rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, high-end amenities, and luxurious bathrooms

The hotel has 121 stylish rooms, many with expansive sea views, and a few with picture-perfect vistas of Tramuntana mountains. All are decorated in elegant contemporary style with a muted palette, clean lines, and somewhat minimalist wooden furniture. Off-white and beige bed runners, armchairs, and carpets stand out against the brown or eggplant accent walls, while cylindrical accent pillows with touches of fuchsia add some color. All units have an open design that makes the most of the light coming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the white floors, walls, and linens add some visual space. The large flat-screen TVs and iPod docks somehow don't deter from the serenity. Fully stocked minibars and Nespresso machines are nicely contained inside and atop wooden cabinets. The generously sized armoires hold plush bathrobes, umbrellas, and safes. Bathrooms are spacious and upscale, with wooden cabinets, separate soaking tubs and rain showers, and Quercus toiletries. All units have furnished balconies, and Suites have larger terraces with loungers and tables.

Features

A spa, two pools, three bars, two restaurants, a fitness center, and a kids’ club

With stylish decor, a relaxing atmosphere, and indoor and outdoor features, Talise Spa is the hotel’s icing on the cake. Aside from several treatment rooms, saunas, steam baths, and relaxation areas, the spa offers a gorgeous outdoor pool complete with underwater jetted loungers, swan necks, and panoramic mountain views. Additionally, the hotel has two other pools, including a stunning infinity adult-only pool (kids under 12 are not allowed here) with panoramic sea views. On the other side of the property is the family-friendly pool, surrounded by a stone deck with loungers, and also offering panoramic sea views. Each pool has its own bar with drinks and snacks. The Sunset Lounge serves sushi and cocktails, and has the most stunning sunset views around. For larger meals, the hotel offers two options: Cap Roig, a Mediterranean restaurant with outdoor seating, and Es Fanals, a tapas restaurant with expansive sea views. The fitness center is spacious and sunny, with large windows offering mountain views, and a wide array of cardio and strength-training machines. Despite the hotel’s quiet vibe, the Jumeirah is popular with families due to its great kids’ club, which has lots of fun indoor and outdoor activities for children between ages three and 12. Kids under 12 stay free. Although not particularly catering to the business traveler, the hotel does have some meeting space and offers basic business services such as copying. Other services include concierges, town cars, on-site parking, and car washing (for a fee). Free Wi-Fi and free shuttle service to the beach are also great perks. The hotel has a pet-friendly policy, but there is a one-time fee.
