The Hotel Saratoga is a four-pearl, jazz-themed property in the center of Palma with 187 rooms. Indications of the owners' love affair with jazz music are abundant throughout the hotel, which is home to Blue Jazz Club, one of Palma's premier venues for live jazz. Rooms are contemporary and clean, with stylish bathrooms. Interior-facing rooms are preferable, as noise from outside can travel up. Balcony views vary in their appeal; rooms looking out on the pool, the Bay of Palma, and the Seu Cathedral are certainly the most desirable. The rooftop pool is a winner, with a fantastic semi-panoramic view of Palma, though lounge chairs are limited. Popular with the business crowd, its lobby feels slightly formulaic and lacks the classic elegance of its neighbor, the Hotel Continental, which is also worth considering.
Scene
Heaven for jazz lovers, handy for business people
This hotel is all about music. From the playful decorative homages to jazz that are sprinkled throughout the property, right down to the carefully selected elevator music, it's a place with character, class, and a laid-back, jazzy vibe. That said, given its central location near the Santa Catalina district of Palma, it's also popular with business people, who are often spotted meeting up in the property's Gastrobar or hammering away on laptops in the hotel lobby. In peak season, prepare to snag a lounge chair early in the day, as the pool areas are small for a property of this size, and space to sun can quickly become scarce.
Location
Central location, within walking distance of the best of Palma
The Hotel Saratoga is located on Palma's famous Paseo Mallorca. It's surrounded by lush palm trees, a small river, charming stone bridge, and sunny park where public Bicipalma bikes can be rented for the day or a couple of hours. The exclusive Born shopping district and Jaime III street are within walking distance, as is the historical nucleus of Palma, complete with many of the city's best restaurants, shops, and theaters. It's a 30-minute bus ride from the Palma Airport, and Mallorca's Es Baluard Modern Art Museum is a two-minute walk away.
Rooms
Sleek, modern rooms and suites -- all with balconies and some with gorgeous views
All rooms at the Hotel Saratoga are decorated in a sleek, modern, if not overly upscale style, but for a bit of extra indulgence, the Junior Suites are definitely worth the upgrade. These have impressive speaker systems, sunny wraparound balconies, and sleek black leather sofas that almost recreate the feeling of being in a jazz club. All rooms types have modern bathrooms with long counters and walk-in showers with square-shaped rainfall showerheads. All rooms have balconies, some with views of the Seu Cathedral, the pool, or quiet gardens. Note that road-facing rooms can get a lot of traffic noise; light sleepers should request an interior-facing room.
Features
Blue Jazz Club with live music and great views, plus Gastrobar and two pools, one on the rooftop
Views from the Hotel Saratoga's Blue Jazz Club are as spectacular as the atmosphere. Located on the seventh floor of the hotel, it's one of Mallorca's premier jazz venues, and distinguished jazz musicians give live concerts on most evenings. Back on the ground floor, the Gastrobar has a street terrace and is a cozy place to pop in for a drink or light snack. Shaped like a lima bean and nestled between tall buildings, the ground-floor pool feels cozy, but for unfettered sun and smashing views of the Seu Cathedral and Bay of Palma, the rooftop pool is a much better, more private option. The spacious fitness center is bathed in natural light most of the time and offers good views of the city's skyline. It's flanked by a sauna as well as a spa that offers a solid range of treatments, along with two delightful oval-shaped whirlpool tubs. Though not large enough to accommodate a major conference, the crisp, modern meeting room can fit up to 125 people and has all the necessary audiovisual equipment. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
