The 412-room upscale Olimarotel Gran Camp de Mar is a large destination resort with a variety of all-inclusive options and activities for guests of all ages. This property is a quieter resort in an exclusive area, with beautiful bay views and a lovely sandy beach lined with sunbeds and palapas (for rent). Guests are required to wear ID wristbands during their stay. Rooms are small but spotless and have balconies with partial or full sea views. For a Majorca property with a more intimate, boutique scale, travelers could consider Melia Cala D'Or.
Scene
Laid-back and chill, with gorgeous sea views, and plenty of spots to soak up the sunshine
The Olimarotel Gran Camp de Mar is a large beachside resort with plenty to do for adults and kids alike. The seven-story hotel is in a quiet but scenic area of Majorca, overlooking Camp de Mar Bay. The buildings are fresh-looking and white on the outside, and the lobby is bright, flooded with sun from the central skylights. There is a fountain surrounded by comfortable seating in elegant white and silver gray, with a variety of artwork that includes mosaics and sculptures made from wood and other natural materials. The atmosphere is far from stuffy, and guests wander through the lobby in bathing suits and flip-flops. The resort is spacious, with two outdoor tennis courts and two multi-sport courts; the sports facilities, huge lagoon-style pool and guest rooms all offer spectacular sea coast, mountain, and village views. There are a wide variety of spots to relax and bake in the Mediterranean sun, including the pretty sand beach, lined with palapas and lounge chairs (although there's a rental charge for their use). There's a solarium: a deck overlooking the beach, where guests can sunbathe without getting sand between their toes. Bathrooms and a bar can be found by the beach, for convenience. Cocktails are available everywhere, of course, as with most all-inclusive properties, and guests are required to wear ID wristbands to differentiate their category. These slightly reduce the high-end feel of the hotel. The freeform pool is huge, and guests who want to soak without the intrusion of organized games of water polo or water aerobics can still find a pocket of relaxation here. There's also an adult-only terrace, for those who really want to get away from the fracas, along with patches of green grass. At night, live entertainment and dancing takes place in the Bar Salon, which is built around a large dance floor ringed with brightly colored, comfortable chairs and cocktail tables. The restaurants are clean and pretty, with lots of white paint and bright accent colors, but they do have low ceilings and lots of tables. Fancy dining it isn’t, but there are nice restaurants within a short taxi ride, and the food is plentiful. The Gran Camp de Mar is a good choice for a laid-back resort vacation with a slower pace, a good place to chill out in the sunshine.
Location
In a quiet, exclusive area with gorgeous scenery and a lovely bay beach
The Olimarotel Gran Camp de Mar is located in a quiet, exclusive enclave overlooking scenic Camp de Mar Bay. The beach is secluded, with calm surf and shallow water that make for excellent snorkeling. The town of Campo is quiet, with few restaurants and bars, but there's a romantic restaurant located just off the beach on an island reachable via jetty. Port Andratx, where guests can find plenty of beautiful restaurants lining the port, is a 10-minute cab ride away. For shopping, the town of Paguera is a seven-minute cab ride from the hotel. Golfers will find Andratx Golf Course two blocks away. Popular attractions, including Western Water Park, Pirate Adventure Show, and Palma Nova Beach, are within a 15-minute drive of the hotel. The busy capital city of Palma, with its flourishing nightlife, is a 25-minute drive away.
Rooms
Clean and pretty, but small, with private balconies and beautiful views
The 412 guest rooms at the Olimarotel Gran Camp de Mar are small, but spotlessly clean and pretty, with bright balconies and patios, most of which offer front or side sea views. The decor is stylish and minimal, with red or baby blue headboards, tile floors, and light-wood furnishings. There are built-in desks that may be a bit narrow for serious work. Small all-white bathrooms, renovated in late 2015, are clean and modern with sleek walk-in rainfall showers and wide basin sinks, but little counter space. Rooms have thin walls, and rooms above the bar can be noisy. Also, beds in twin rooms are placed side by side and cannot be separated. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels in several languages, mini-fridges, free toiletries, and laptop safes (use is an added fee). Connecting rooms are available upon request. In-room Wi-Fi comes with a fee.
Features
Plenty of sports, organized fun, cocktail bars, dancing, and a full-service spa
The Olimarotel Gran Camp de Mar features a full-service spa with a sauna, an indoor plunge pool, a hot tub, and a full menu of massage, body treatments, and beauty services. Guests may want to book appointments before arrival. There's a spacious fitness center with cardio and weight equipment. In addition, there are two outdoor tennis courts, and two multi-sport courts where guests can play soccer, basketball, volleyball, and more. Other organized activities include water polo, stretch class, water aerobics, shooting and archery, canoeing, and hiking. Cyclists can take advantage of organized bicycle tours (except during July and August), and the hotel offers bike storage and repair facilities. At the beach, sunbeds and umbrellas are reserved for hotel guests (for a rental fee), and there's bathrooms and a beach bar. The large pool area has plenty of sunbeds, and a snack bar that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, and pina coladas. The buffet restaurant has a Mediterranean menu in addition to a variety of international theme nights. There is a diet section for the calorie-conscious, and kids menus are available. Twice a week, sparkling wine is served with breakfast. In addition to three meeting rooms, there are two private lobby computer stations. There is live entertainment and dancing in the evening, with a mini disco for kids.
