Bottom Line
The Hotel Globales Sumba is 280-room, mid-range property across the street from the lovely swimmable beach of Cala Nau. Rooms are reasonably modern if not up to advertised four-star standards, and the contemporary bathrooms and nice views from the balcony are upsides. The hotel's striking circular pool has ocean views, and there are also an indoor pool, a sun terrace, and tennis courts. A thorough entertainment program ensures a lively atmosphere throughout the day. For a true upscale experience, consider the neighboring Hiphotels Aparthotel Cala Millor Park.

Scene
Sand, waves, and sun in a relaxed atmposphere
Surrounded by quaint shops and lively restaurants, the Hotel Globales Sumba is a large property with plenty of on-site activities. The lobby is dark, with low ceilings, polished marble floors, and multiple seating areas, each with a seafoam green area rug and a few burundy-hued sofas. There's a trio of elevators off to one side. Expect to hear waves crashing on the shoreline, as well as the occasional rallying of the entertainment team, which likes to involve guests in heated games of bingo and activities in the outdoor pool. As with most all-inclusive hotels in Mallorca, you'll see plenty of British tourists lounging by the pool and a steady stream of plastic cups filled with beer and spirits.
Location
Facing a beautiful waterfront promenade and the lovely Cala Nau Beach
Overlooking the beautiful Cala Nau Beach, the hotel is surrounded by a promenade that stretches for several miles along the water. A five-minute walk takes guests to plenty of local shops, bars, and restaurants, and glass-bottom boat tour operators. The picturesque Punta de n'Amer, a 17th-century watchtower, is a three-minute drive from the hotel. Central Palma and the Palma Airport are both a one-hour drive away, and can also be reached by public transportation which is easily accessed near the hotel, but the trip takes twice as long.
Rooms
Air-conditioned rooms with dark interiors and upscale bathrooms
The Standard Rooms at the Hotel Globales Sumba are decorated in shades of mauve and brown. They don't feel very cheerful or Mediterranean, but the furniture is in good condition, and rooms come with air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs. Modern bathrooms (renovated in 2010) feature bold red tiles and a matching countertops, as well as a spacious all glass-walled rainfall showers and wall-mounted hairdryers. The balconies are recessed and don't get much direct sun, but most have beautiful pool views and from some guests can catch glimpses of the sparkling white beach and crystalline waters just beyond the property.
Features
Nice pools, adequate fitness facilities, and highly rated dining
The focal piece of the Hotel Globales Sumba is its big round outdoor pool, which is surrounded by lounge chairs, big white umbrellas, and beds of cheery pink flowers, and looks out over a beautiful white beach. The hotel also has an oblong indoor pool and small hot tub surrounded by bright orange-lounge chairs. There's also a decently sized fitness center with modern equipment weight and cardio machines, as well as an outdoor tennis court and a ping pong table. Nightly entertainment takes place on a spacious stage with professional lighting and comfortable lime-green and purple seating. While the decor of the indoor restaurant is disappointingly drab and feels cavernous, the quality and variety of food on offer gets rave reviews. Drinks are available at the Bar Saloon, which has a sunny terrace. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property but the connection is reportedly spotty at times.
