Bottom Line

Hotel Desbrull will appeal to travelers seeking modern, attractive accommodations with traditional charm. The small, two-and-a-half-pearl property set in townhouse in the center of picturesque Pollenca is family-run, and guests can expect individual attention and service. Its six rooms are simple and elegant, with free Wi-Fi and full bathrooms, though there's little else in the way of amenities. Features are limited too, but a decent breakfast of cold and freshly cooked items is always included in the rate, and it can be taken to cafe tables out front. While it provides a perfectly pleasant base to explore the surrounding area, travelers looking for a similar stay with more amenities can check out the nearby Hotel Son Sant Jordi, which often has higher rates but adds a small spa and pool.

Scene

Tiny, family-run guesthouse set in traditional townhouse with modern interiors

The Desbrull occupies an exposed stone townhouse that has a smart look, with trim black shutters and awnings, and white-marble planters flanking the front door. Stepping into the lobby, wooden beams are the only obvious remnants of the original building, with a modern makeover that incorporates polished black marble, colorful artworks, and contemporary furniture. The hotel opened in 2013, and it's run by a brother and sister team who bring personalized service and a friendly atmosphere to the place. Despite its name, the property is more upmarket guesthouse than boutique hotel, with no real facilities and very limited common areas. Despite that, guests—made up mostly of older British and German couples—looking for little more than a simple, clean, and inviting place to stay are usually more than happy here.

Location

Central setting in pretty town of Pollenca, just one block from its main square

The property is located in the center of one of the island's prettiest towns, Pollenca, set on the northeastern side of Majorca. It is surrounded by other period townhouses opposite a leafy square, and the main plaza, lined with restaurants and cafes, is just a two-minute walk away. Shops, art galleries, and bars are scattered around the town's quaint, narrow streets. For stunning countryside views, the hilltop El Calvario church is less than 10 minutes' walk away—though it has hundreds of steps. Less than 15 minutes away by car is the sandy bay and popular resort of Port De Pollenca. The capital of Palma is about a 45-minute drive, and it's roughly the same to reach Palma de Mallorca Airport.

Rooms

Simple clean rooms all overlooking quiet street and leafy square

The hotel's six double rooms are all finished in simple yet stylish decor that combines white walls hung with contemporary artworks with polished parquet floors and wood-beam ceilings. Those on the lower floor have higher ceilings and larger windows than those on the second, but all overlook the pretty street and leafy square, with some offering views of surrounding hillside.In-room amenities are basic but adequate, with small flat-screen TVs, key-operated safes, air-conditioning/heating units, and free Wi-Fi, with decent connection most of the time. Bathrooms are spacious and streamlined, with all-white tile and black marble vanities. All come with bidets and shower/tub combos, plus wall-mounted hairdryers and basic toiletries.

Features

Free quality breakfast that includes made-to-order hot items, and free Wi-Fi

The property offers very little in the way of facilities, beyond a small bar and breakfast area which is part of the lobby. Breakfast is always included in the rate, and includes a modest range of items such as fruit, cereals, yogurt, juice, cold meats, and cheese, plus freshly cooked eggs and bacon on request. Breakfast can also be enjoyed from streetside cafe tables. The front desk isn't open 24 hours, but guests are given a key to the front door. The owners are also usually on hand to help with travel reservations and other services. Free private parking is available a few minutes' walk from the hotel (reservation needed), and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
