Bottom Line

Apartments Habitat is a mid-range, family-friendly complex set on the outskirts of the popular Majorcan resort of Port De Pollenca. Off a busy road and away from town, the location isn't its strong point, though the beach and resort center are within walking distance. The 65 apartments have one or two bedrooms, and all come with well-equipped kitchenettes, lounge and dining areas, and balconies or terraces -- though some overlook the road. One pool features lively child-friendly activities -- and a kids' pool -- while the other provides more peaceful relaxation. For guests who don't mind staying slightly outside of town, the property provides a good if uninspiring self-catering option, with the added bonus of an on-site restaurant. Nearby competition is the cycling-friendly Aparthotel Duva & Spa, which also has an outdoor and indoor pool, and an all-inclusive option.

Scene

Well-maintained apartment complex popular with families

While the Apartments Habitat's jazzy, angular signs suggests something a little edgy, this mid-range vacation resort is anything but. It is, however, a perfectly pleasant low-rise apartment complex set amid an acre of well-tended gardens complete with lawns and a lily pond, and dotted with palm trees. The property consists of about a dozen, three-story blocks, each topped with the brand's signature triangle, and kept looking fresh with whitewashed facades. Built in 1998, the resort is mostly smart and well-maintained, if lacking a little in the way of character, with a particularly underwhelming reception area. The aparthotel is particularly popular with families with children, but it also attracts vacationing couples.

Location

On the outskirts of Port De Pollenca, a 15-minute walk to the beach

The complex sits on a fairy busy road in the quiet Siller neighborhood on the outskirts of the popular Majorcan resort of Port De Pollenca. While there's little in the immediate surroundings, it's about a 10-minute walk to the numerous bars and restaurants in town and another five minutes to the beautiful long stretch of sandy beach. It's also a 10-minute walk to the nearest supermarket, or a two- to three-minute walk to a bus stop that connects to the resort center in about five. Located on the northeast coast, the property is about an hour's drive from the island's charming capital Palma, and to Palma de Mallorca Airport.

Rooms

All apartments come with well-equipped kitchenettes and open onto terraces or balconies

Apartments Habitat has 65 apartments, which have one or two bedrooms, kitchenettes, lounge/dining rooms, and terraces or balconies -- most of which overlook one of the pools (though some face the road). Many of the units were renovated in 2015, and they have a fresh, contemporary finish with spruced-up white furniture, wood-veneer flooring, and sea-themed photographs; older apartments have tile floors and dated-looking furniture. Kitchenettes include microwaves, electric burners, mini-fridges, toasters, kettles, and cookware -- most of which is in good condition. The 32-inch flat-screen TVs have a few English-language channels, and while Wi-Fi is free, the signal can be shaky. Renovated bathrooms have walk-in showers, while older ones have shower/tub combos -- all include wall-mounted hairdryers and basic toiletries.

Features

Two swimming pools, one with poolside activities and kids' section

There are two main pools at this self-catering complex, and the larger one includes a separate kids' pool as well as kid-friendly activities during the day, while the other is smaller and calmer. Some traffic noise can be heard during the day, but it doesn't seem to bother many guests, and evenings are quiet. Most of the entertainment is geared toward children, though there are some adult-oriented shows a couple of nights a week. The on-site restaurant has a spacious alfresco terrace, and it serves a buffet breakfast (not included), as well as a simple menu of international favorites. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, but the signal can be shaky.
