Apartamentos Holiday Center is a simple, mid-range Balearic-style apartment complex located a short stroll from Santa Ponsa's large sandy beach and lively nightlife. Despite its location, it's relatively peaceful and family-focused, and is one of just a few places in the area where stag and hen parties are not allowed. Updated in 2015, all the apartments are clean and contemporary and open to balconies or terraces (leading to inevitable street noise in some). The lack of any real sea views, fairly small pool, and inconsistent food quality are the main flaws, though most enjoy the hotel's relaxed vibe and a kids' club helps keep the little ones occupied. For sea views and a larger pool check out Apartamentos Verdemar just up the hill, though it charges for sunbeds.
Scene
Simple, relatively quiet apartment complex with traditional Balearic architecture
Replacing most of the dated interiors with fresh, clean-lined, and contemporary decor, 2015 renovations breathed new life into the previously rather worn-looking Apartamentos Holiday Center. The traditional Balearic-style architecture looks pristine, thanks to freshly whitewashed faces, and one side of the complex overlooks sloping gardens lined with lawns, balustrade terraces, and dotted with mature palms trees. The long, low-rise aparthotel doesn't offer much in the way of sea views, and its single elevator doesn't cover all floors, meaning steps for many guests. It is however one of the simpler and quieter properties in the resort destination, making it popular with a mixture of families and vacationing couples, mostly from Britain and Ireland, rather than an up-for-it party crowd (no hen and stag parties are permitted, and large groups need to contact the hotel in advance).
Location
Short stroll from Santa Ponsa nightlife and its sweeping sandy bay
The hotel is located on the livelier north side of the popular resort town of Santa Ponsa, situated on the southwest coast of Majorca. Its immediate surroundings comprise other hotels and apartment blocks, while just a couple minutes away on foot is the main nightlife hub with tourist restaurants, nightclubs, and late-night bars (many Irish-themed). The resort's wide stretch of sandy beach and start of its beachfront promenade is about five minutes away on foot, or there's also a small and quieter beach -- Caló d'en Pellicer -- about a five-minute drive away. For even wilder partying, the renowned nightlife of Magaluf is a 10-minute cab journey away. Alternatively, the charming cobbled streets of Palma's Old Town are under 30 minutes away by car, and Palma de Mallorca Airport is around the same distance.
Rooms
Clean, with modern, uncluttered decor, plus walk-in rainfall showers
Each of the property's 120 one-bedroom apartments was give a makeover in 2015, and the clean, modern decor combines wood-effect flooring, simple IKEA-style furniture, and cheerful fabrics. Glass doors slide open to balconies or terraces with patio-style plastic furniture; some of those on upper floors provide partial views of the bay. Lower levels can be prone to noise from late-night returning revelers. Living rooms include lounge areas with 32-inch flat-screen TVs, dining furniture, and kitchenettes with electric hobs, fridges, kettles, and toasters. TV channels include a handful of U.K.-based options and something for kids. Wi-Fi is charged, and either slow or nonexistent. Bathrooms are clean and contemporary, with walk-in showers (both rainfall and handheld heads) and wall-mounted hairdryers.
Features
Small outdoor swimming pool, poolside snack bar, and kids' club
While the main feature of the complex is a sunny tiered pool terrace, many complain that the pool itself is not big enough for the number of guests -- especially during peak season. Loungers are fairly plentiful, though bagging one can be a problem when the hotel is full, and not all include parasols. The restaurant is one of the few places that didn't benefit from renovations, and feels dated. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here buffet style (and may be covered by the various meal plans) though food quality can be inconsistent and variety limited. There's also a poolside bar offering a late menu of snacks and light meals (mostly fast food). As well as a separate splash pool, games room, and playground, children have a kids' club (for ages 4 to 12) to keep themselves entertained.
All-Inclusive / Food
Local-brand beverages and half-price cocktails
The optional all-inclusive plan covers the buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with live cooking and regular themed dinners. Snacks are served at selected times between meals and include ice creams and sandwiches, though are not available in the evening (when an a la carte menu is served). Local-brand beer, wine, and spirits, and international soft drinks are also covered; some premium brand drinks and cocktails are available for half price. Half-board rates are also available.
