The Pink Blossoms Resort is a seasonal, 30-room property in Ogunquit, Maine with a generally busy, family-friendly vibe. The three-pearl, traditional resort opens for business during the second week of April and closes in the last week in October. Its white, wood-frame buildings sit on park-like grounds with a swimming pool, a hot tub, tennis courts, and picnic and barbecue areas. The lodgings -- all suites -- range from studios with kitchenettes to a four-bedroom house. Their furnishings are decent quality, a blend of Pottery Barn and T.J. Maxx, with practical pieces like pull-out sofa beds. There's free coffee and tea in the lobby and hot cider when the weather cools. If Pink Blossoms is booked, try its sister property, The Grand Hotel, just a five-minute walk away.
Scene
New England resort popular with vacationing families
The appearance and atmosphere at the family-friendly Pink Blossoms Resort has a traditional New England feel, and it's constructed of attractive and durable materials and finishes made to withstand generations of children romping through. The grounds are well-maintained, with mature trees and seasonal flowerbeds. The lobby is in the big main house and has tile floors and area rugs, bright track lighting, and wingback chairs covered in pretty fabric and an old recliner. Free coffee, tea, and hot cider are available along with newspapers to read, giving the property an extra homeyness. Activity centers on the oval-shaped pool and the octagon-shaped hot tub. Guests also gather around the picnic tables and grills or get active with the tennis courts.
Location
Close to the water and Ogunquit attractions
Pink Blossoms Resort sits near the beach and downtown Ogunquit, off a main road that can get busy during the summer rush. The Grand Hotel -- the sister property where Pink Blossoms' guests can use the indoor pool -- is a five-minute walk away. It's a 10-minute walk to the water at Ogunquit Beach, a big, public place with lifeguards. The town of Wells -- with its three fine beaches -- is a 12-minute drive. From the hotel, guests can walk to the charming Ogunquit Memorial Library in one minute so rainy days shouldn't be a problem, especially if followed by an eight-minute walk to Harbor Candy Shop. A second day of rain might call for guests to visit Blacksmith's Mall, a nine-minute walk, or the Leavitt Fine Arts Theatre, a 10-minute walk. Guests rave about the meandering Marginal Way Walkway that winds along the water, a 12-minute walk from the resort. For those who want to splurge on a special night out, the lovely Clay Hill Farms Restaurant is a five-minute drive. Portsmouth International Airport is 27 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Variety of suites
All of the resort's rooms are suites, and they range from a large, one-bedroom Studio with kitchenettes to the four-bedroom Cove House, with a full kitchen and a separate living area. Decor is traditional and understated, rather than self-consciously stylish. Each lodging is distinct: one unit has a bedroom with a transom window into the sunny living room. Higher-level units have balconies, while the resort's "Step-Down" suites on the ground floor have terraces or a bit of garden.Kitchens are either white or dark wood with synthetic counter tops in quiet shades and have refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, coffeemakers, cookery, and crockery. There is a living area with comfortable upholstered pieces and coffee tables as well as a flat screen TV. The dining areas have tables and chairs near sliding doors that lead to small balconies with furniture. Views are either of the resort or the parking area. Bathrooms are decent in size with synthetic countertops surrounding white porcelain sinks plus shower/tub combos with waffle-weave curtains. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided.
