Bottom Line

The Ogunquit Resort Motel is a three-pearl property located away from downtown Ogunquit and a few minutes' drive from Footbridge Beach. Prices are affordable for families and travelers who don't need a lot of extra features. Spacious, classic rooms are dated in decor but have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. One- and Two-Bedroom Suites are good options for families. The main feature is a massive outdoor pool that's one of the largest in the area. Free continental breakfast and Wi-Fi are nice added perks, but there is no lunch or dinner service and the gym has limited equipment. The Colonial Inn is closer to the beach and features more charming decor in a historic building, plus it provides free wine and homemade breakfast items.

Scene

Family-friendly property with simple decor and a huge pool

During the summer in particular, the Ogunquit Resort Motel is a busy place that draws lots of families with kids to its outdoor pool -- one of the largest in the area. The property's main feature and gathering place, the massive pool is surrounded by a deck lined with white sunbeds. Nearby, there's a large hot tub underneath a gazebo. The motel itself is somewhat less impressive: a simple two-story building with pale-yellow siding and white-painted balconies. The lobby is mostly beige and has pairs of gray sofas and armchairs around a coffee table, where guests can relax or wait to check in. Hallways are narrow and clean but undecorated, featuring only beige-striped wallpaper and brown carpet. Most guests are couples or families drawn to the pool, quiet location away from hectic downtown, and specialty suites with hot tubs.

Location

On Route 1 about 15 minutes' walk from the beach

The hotel's location off of Route 1 is away from the chaos of downtown, but still central enough for travelers to get around easily. Route 1 can be quite busy in the summer season, but it's a safe area and tourists are usually seen walking. Footbridge Beach is located about a 15 minutes' walk or a few minutes' drive. Several shops, restaurants, and Ogunquit Playhouse are within a five-minute walk. Main Street (with more restaurants and shopping) is a few minutes' drive or 10-to 15-minute walk away. A trolley that stops outside the hotel navigates around town. Portland International Jetport is about a 40-minute drive away.

Rooms

Dated rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, and suites with hot tubs

Rooms at the Ogunquit Resort Motel are spacious compared to other properties in town, but decor is nondescript. The style is classic and a little traditional, including brown carpet, beige drapes, and dark-wood headboards. Small wood desks and a pair of armchairs are placed in all rooms. Other standard amenities are flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. There are One-Bedroom Suites with hot tubs, fireplaces, and/or balconies. Two-Bedroom Suites with living rooms and large kitchenettes are also available. Rooms with balconies cost extra.
Bathrooms have beige tile and wallpaper, shower/tub combos, simple toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. Rooms are not completely soundproof, and noise from corridors can be heard. Guests have complained of minor maintenance issues such as backed-up toilets, as well as a lack of thorough housekeeping.

Features

Free breakfast, enormous outdoor pool, and gym with limited equipment

Features are limited and mostly free. Free continental breakfast is served daily and includes yogurt, granola, fruit, cereal, bagels, and bread. There is coffee available all day in the lobby and there are soda and snack machines on-site. The clean, covered pool is one of the largest in town and the main feature of the property. There's also a hot tub underneath a gazebo. During the off-season, aqua yoga is sometimes offered in the pool. A small game room in the basement of one wing of the hotel has a foosball machine. A fitness room has a few dated cardio machines and a weight machine. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.
