Bottom Line
The Juniper Hill Inn is mid-range hotel on a sprawling, five-acre property with expansive lawns and leafy trees. The hotel has a motel-like look and feel, with a a number of buildings and a range of rooms -- from the plain Standard to the two-bedroom Cottage at Acorn Lane -- that open onto parking lots. Amenities are basic: free continental breakfast, an indoor pool and two outdoor pools with whirlpools, a small fitness center, and laundry facilities on premises. The Juniper Hill Inn also has a back path to the beach so guests can avoid the main road, and the village center is about a five-minute walk away. The hotel's amenities and price are comparable to others in its class in the area, but most rooms at sister property Gorges Grant Hotel are nicer.

Scene
Quiet and peaceful, well-suited for a range of guests
The lobby of the Juniper Hill Inn has a living room feel, with floral couches, carpeting, and cherry wood furniture. Guests range from families to young couples and honeymooners to business travelers -- the convenient location and peaceful setting are the main draws. Overall, the place is fairly quiet, set on five acres of green lawns, a few minutes' walk from Ogunquit’s town center. Guests sit, read, and relax throughout the grounds, at the pool areas and on the porches with chaise lounges and rocking chairs. Ogunquit is a quaint town filled with art galleries, boutiques, and antique shops -- a seasonal trolley, which stops outside the hotel, runs through the town and to the beach for guests who’d prefer not to walk.
Location
Conveniently located near town center and beach
The Juniper Hill Inn is conveniently located off the main road in Ogunquit, a few minutes walk from the town center. There are a few restaurants around the hotel, and more as you approach downtown. Off Main Street, the Inn is also close to the highway, with easy access in and out of town. It’s just a short walk to the beach, and the hotel has its own pathway that avoids the main road. Marginal Way, an oceanside footpath running south from the beach, offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and leads to Perkin’s Cove, where there are shops and restaurants off the water.
Rooms
Most rooms are dated, but The Cottage is cozy
There are a variety of rooms at the Juniper Hill Inn -- most are quite dated, with motel-quality bedding, but some are updated with an attractive and beach-y style. All rooms are clean and functional, but those at sister property Gorges Grant are nicer. Many of the dated rooms we saw were in the King Deluxe or Two Doubles Standard categories, and had cheap comforters, worn carpets, and dark color schemes ill-suited to the beachside locale. A couple rooms in the Two Queens Deluxe category had modern updates and more charm; one had identical decor to most rooms found at Gorges Grant, and one had quaint, beach-y blue and white fabrics. There is one modern cottage on the property, a cleanly designed space decorated in bright ocean blues, with a full kitchen -- a good choice for an extended stay or large parties. All rooms have mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.
Features
Three pools, small fitness center, and free continental breakfast
The Juniper Hill Inn has two heated outdoor pools and a heated indoor pool, along with indoor and outdoor whirlpools. While basic, the pools are clean and have plenty of lounge chairs, though the outdoor pools can get crowded with kids. The fitness center is small, consisting of a few cardio machines and a compact set of weight machines -- all in fine condition but not overly modern. There’s also a coin-operated laundry room and a small arcade room for kids. The Inn provides free continental breakfast, coffee in the lobby, and a selection of newspapers for guests.
