Bottom Line

The Dockside Guest Quarters hotel has large, bright rooms with a lovely (yet basic) seaside-cottage style. Though the decor in each room varies slightly, most rooms feature shades of blues and yellows, stripes and flower prints, and balconies overlooking the sail boat-dotted water. The hotel lacks amenities like a fitness center and a pool, but guests enjoy perks such as free bicycle rentals, free Wi-Fi, and free breakfast in the often-crowded breakfast area.

Like other resort towns along Maine's coast, York Harbor became a popular getaway after the Civil War. Many of the original shingle-style buildings and homes remain today and, aside from York Beach, are one of the city's strongest draws. The 18th-century former jailhouse remains, as do historic homes and the Nubble Lighthouse -- one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country.York Harbor experiences a surge of visitors during the summertime. Tourists flock to the coast, lined by sandy and rocky beaches, and enjoy activities like swimming, surfing, kayaking, fishing, and even whale watching. There are also nature preserves in the area for hiking, as well as nearby golf courses.Dockside Quarters overlooks a marina in York Harbor. It is a bit removed from town, but most sites and attractions are only a short drive away.- 53-minute drive to Portland International Jetport
