Bottom Line

The 50-unit Jonathan Creek Inn and Villas are a step above typical mid-range properties, offering everything from quaint rooms to large villas for up to 18 guests, with amenities like fireplaces, full kitchens, creekside screened porches, and private whirlpool tubs. Rustic, homey rooms include microwaves, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. Main draws are a glass-enclosed heated pool, hot tub, and a plethora of creekside nooks and crannies designed for relaxing: a children's playground, gazebo-covered picnic area with grill, hammocks, swings, and lodge-like lobby lounge. The inn is situated in the heart of Maggie Valley near skiing, snow tubing, hiking, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's no restaurant on-site, but the pancake place across the street is popular. For shorter stays, the BEST WESTERN Mountainbrook Inn is a solid chain-choice, but it lacks the charm of this property.

Scene

A rustic and relaxing mid-range creekside retreat with multi-room villas

This peaceful inn hosts a wide variety of leisure guests and repeat customers, and it’s easy to see why, with its spacious villas for groups or extended families and nicely decorated, creekside rooms for couples and smaller families. The landscaped grounds overlooking the rushing mountain creek are designed to foster fun and relaxation, and the property stays busy in warm months. The grounds include grills, hammocks, a koi pond, a small playground, and lots of chairs to sit by the creek, plus a large covered gazebo with picnic tables. In cooler months, guests can take advantage of a glass-enclosed heated pool, hot tub, and the rustic, lodge-like lobby with a stone fireplace, pine floors, and homey furniture that wouldn't be out of place in someone's living room. While it lacks the typical extras of standard hotels (no breakfast is offered, for example), this is a clean, comfortable choice for family events or weekend getaways.

Location

On Jonathan Creek near the Blue Ridge Parkway, skiing, and hiking

This Inn is located in a scenic, woodsy area right along Jonathan Creek in the heart of Maggie Valley. It's situated right off a main road, with other hotels nearby, a popular pancake joint across the street, and a grocery store about a five-minute walk away. The entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Soco Gap is about a seven-minute drive, and guests often come to the area for nearby skiing, snow tubing, or hiking.- 11-minute walk to Ghost Town in the Sky

  • 11-minute drive to Cataloochee Ski Area (skiing, tubing)
  • 22-minute drive to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort
  • 28-minute drive to Smoky Mountain National Park
  • 42-minute drive to Ashville
  • 55-minute drive to Biltmore Estate & Winery

Rooms

Rustic, homey accommodations, including spacious, multi-room villas with a range of amenities

The inn offers various room options, plus four villas that are essentially oversize cabins or full houses, which can accommodate from eight to 18 people in multi-bedroom/bathroom setups. Decor can vary slightly by accommodation, but expect to see a rustic style with quality, matching oak or pine furniture, wood laminate floors, cream painted walls, and multicolor comforters (a bit dated in style, but fitting in this setting). Bathrooms are neutral and clean, with walk-in showers replacing many of the shower and tub inserts in 2016.Villas include spacious, fully equipped kitchens with full fridges and dishwashers. They also have dining rooms, family rooms, fireplaces, washer/dryers, and whirlpools on outside decks. Some even have game rooms with billiards tables. Overall, the roomy villas are nicely decorated in rustic cabin style, are beautifully maintained, and provide a convenient option for extended families or vacationing groups of friends. Inn rooms begin with the value-oriented, Mountain-view Deluxe Rooms that are not creekside and offer the least amount of room. Still, even as the smallest option, they offer ample space and come in configurations that include one king-size bed, two queen-size beds, or two double beds. Upgraded Creekside Rooms might include gas fireplaces, screened porches or patios, or whirlpool tubs. All units have a microwave, mini-fridge, coffeemaker, and flat-screen TV. Wi-Fi is free, and no pets are allowed in the rooms.

Features

Glass-enclosed pool, patio hot tub, and plenty of outdoor relaxation spaces

With landscaped grounds, outdoor relaxation spaces, and windowed indoor lounge areas, amenities here help guests take advantage of the calming, creekside surroundings. Highlights include a glass-enclosed heated pool, popular year-round, and a hot tub on a screened porch. Various public decks with Adirondack chairs also overlook the creek, which is a popular trout fishing stream, while an area near the water offers grills, swings, hammocks, and picnic tables under a large gazebo. For guests traveling with children, there's a small play area with slides and a jungle gym. Inside, public spaces include a sunroom-like hangout with tables and chairs and a homey lounge with a fireplace, lending library, and boardgames. There's no on-site restaurant or breakfast service, but free coffee and tea are available in the lobby. (For meals, guests tend to frequent the pancake house across the street.) Free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the complex, and a business center in the lobby has internet access and a printer. On-site parking is free.
