Rooms are on the smaller side
The Hotel Regente is an attractive and inexpensive property off Madrid's Gran Via. While it’s a good mid-range value for clean, modern rooms and a central location, there are extra fees for Wi-Fi and use of the in-room safe. The breakfast buffet has a decent selection but the small room can get crowded. It’s worth comparing rates with the chicer Praktik Metropol.
Scene
Chic cafe, but otherwise bland interiors
The hotel sets high expectations with its elegant entrance and stylish cafe, but overall the property is dated and boring. The lobby, with checkered marble floors and some purple chairs scattered around small round tables, is attractive but not much of a gathering space. The attached cafe is chic and elegant, with gold fabric chairs, purple banquettes, and striped walls. The small fitness center has a big window with a nice view of the city's skyline. Kids are welcome here, but there isn't much for them to do. The majority of visitors are international couples and business travelers.
Location
Centrally located off the Gran Via, walkable to the main sites
The Regente is on a small street off the Calle Gran Via, Madrid’s upscale shopping street, with plenty of restaurants and nightlife nearby. It’s a few blocks from the Callao and Gran Via metro stops. The Puerta del Sol is a five-minute walk away and it’s less than 10 minutes to the Plaza Mayor. The Adolfo Suarez Airport is about 20 minutes by car or an hour via public transport. There isn't any on-site parking at the hotel, though there are public lots nearby.
Rooms
Basic but clean and pleasant rooms; extra fee to use the safes
The 150 air-conditioned rooms at the Regente have basic, minimalist design, with laminate floors, soft gray and blue walls, and simple, light-colored wood furniture. Handicap accessible rooms are available, along with Single, Double, and Triple rooms -- none of them are especially spacious. Amenities include flat-screen TVs and hairdryers. All rooms have safes, though there is a small fee to use them. Bathrooms have pedestal sinks and bidets as well as a mix of shower/tub combos and stall showers with plastic doors. Expect to pay extra for Wi-Fi in the rooms.
Features
Buffet breakfast, attached cafe, and fitness center
The hotel serves a buffet breakfast each morning (for a small fee), though there can be lines at peak times. There’s a chic cafe on the premises and room service is available, as are laundry and ironing services. A small workout room with a few machines gets a fair bit of light from a large window. Wi-Fi is available for a fee and the lobby has a business corner with Internet access.
