In a classic-looking building, the Praktik has the feel of an upscale hostel with its narrow hallways papered in bright fliers and advertisements. The lobby is a casual, inviting space with an unfinished wood front desk, long communal tables, a coffeemaker, comfortably worn leather sofas, and plaid wing chairs. Antique touches include cast-iron radiators. The rooftop terrace offers an amazing view of the city and is beautifully landscaped with gardens and potted plants. The attached Tapa Tapa restaurant is a similarly fun, youthful space, with funky tile work and bright murals.

The hotel is on a busy pedestrian-only street in the center of Madrid, a few blocks from the Puerta del Sol, one of the city’s busiest squares. Most of the city's major attractions are within walking distance, including the Royal Palace of Madrid, which is about 15 minutes away. The street has for many years been associated with prostitution, but it’s gradually being overtaken by tourism and is generally safe. The hotel is right next to a McDonald's and near the Gran Via metro station. The Adolfo Suarez Airport is just under a 20-minute drive away or about an hour via public transport.

Fun touches include faux rotary-dial phones, funky metal light fixtures, and white tables with map designs. Bathrooms have black and white tiled floors, pedestal sinks, and large walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. Superior Rooms have separate seating areas and Skyline Rooms have sweeping city views. Amenities common to all rooms include flat-screen TVs, safes, hairdryers, and silk-screened bags for storing toiletries.
