Hotel Maydrit Airport

Housed in a nondescript beige building with a glass revolving door, the Maydrit could be just another plain airport hotel. Inside, however, the property is stylish and modern, with an appealing lobby decked out in black floors, wood paneling in the ceiling and walls, and sleek LED lights around the front desk. Cream-colored couches, a thick gray rug, and fresh flowers and plants make the spacious seating area welcoming and comfortable, while sun streams in through floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a quiet street. 

The vibe is business-friendly but relaxed during the week, when the hotel’s sunny restaurant and bar draw workers from the many nearby offices. Its contemporary minimalist decor in black and white is a nice departure from the more traditional-looking restaurants in the area, and the outdoor lounge is a relaxing spot for a quiet nightcap when the weather is nice. In the summer and on weekends, the atmosphere is more family-friendly, and kids can be heard splashing in the pool and playing around couples sunbathing on the deck. 

The hotel is located opposite an empty lot on a small side street in Alameda de Osuna, a quiet residential area home to a number of office buildings and a few casual bars and cafes. This location is convenient for business travelers and transit passengers with a short layover, but leisure visitors may want to stay closer to the city center, as most major attractions -- including Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, and the Prado Museum -- are all about a 35- to 45-minute metro ride away (the nearest stop, El Capricho, is a three-minute walk from the hotel). The main entrance to El Capricho, a lovely 19th-century park home to bike paths, a bunker dating back to the Spanish Civil War, and expansive lawns with serene ponds, is just a 15-minute walk away. IFEMA Fair Grounds, which are directly adjacent to another huge park, are less than a 10-minute drive from the hotel. The airport is less than 10 minutes away, and the hotel runs a free shuttle to all terminals 24 hours a day. Parking is readily available in the area, but the hotel offers underground parking for a daily fee. 

Rooms at Maydrit Hotel come in a variety of styles ranging from classic to contemporary. Units on floors three and four are chic and thoroughly modern, with large crisp white tufted headboards and bold black accents in bed runners, curtains, and desks. Curved edges and simple lines give these rooms a minimalist feel, while beige laminate floors add some warmth. These units also have comfortable king beds and open bathrooms with frosted glass doors in toilet cabins and showers. Rooms on the first and second floors feature simpler decor in an earth tone palette, with dark laminate floors, chocolate brown headboards with off-white padding, twin beds with beige bed runners, and cream-colored curtains. Recessed LED lighting around the desk area, though, is a contemporary touch. Bathrooms in these rooms are spacious and appealing, with separate shower and tubs, beige tiles, and one or two glass sinks. 

Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, LCD TVs, minibars, air-conditioning, and safes -- but only units on the third and fourth floors have coffeemakers. Additionally, Executive Rooms come with a wide array of Hermes toiletries, and Junior Suites, of which there are four, have a separate living area. All rooms at the Maydrit are exterior-facing but quiet.

There are a number of features at the hotel, many of which are popular and others which aren't always common in hotels in Madrid -- even ones near the airport. The restaurant offers tasty traditional Spanish cuisine with a twist and is popular among local office workers for its lunch deals. American and continental breakfast and a dinner menu with international and Spanish options are served here daily as well. The bar adjacent to the restaurant serves drinks until late at night, and features an outdoor lounge popular with guests in the warmer months. The hotel also features a small seasonal pool with loungers, umbrellas and a lifeguard, and a small but well-equipped fitness center with cardio and strength-training machines. The largest of the two on-site meeting rooms can host up to 180 guests and features large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the street. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
