Ideally located in the heart of Madrid across from the Parque del Retiro, the luxury boutique hotel Hospes Madrid is a high-design haven within walking distance of attractions, public transport, restaurants, and high-end shops. Spacious rooms follow the hotel’s theme of modern-vintage, with velvets, metallics, and soothing colors blending harmoniously. Large bathrooms are decked out in elegant marble tile-work, deep soaking
tubs, and walk-in showers, although the lack of proper doors reduces privacy in a way that can be a turn-off for some. Outside the rooms, the hotel is equally luxurious, with a full-service spa with a hammam and pool, an award-winning restaurant/bar with outdoor seating, and bicycles to borrow. The over-the-top concierge services are a highlight, and the 24-hour room
service and front desk are extra perks. On-site parking and shuttles cost fees.
Scene
Sleek and modern design hotel in an historic building
A modern-vintage theme runs throughout the Hospes
Madrid, with tufted white leather pieces and sleek brown suede couches and
armchairs adorning the lobby and rooms alike. Although the building dates to 1883, the hotel's style is sleek and contemporary,
comfortable and elegant. A stylized chandelier hangs at the entrance to the lobby and the polished stone tile lends a sophisticated and minimalist atmosphere.
Mood lighting and historic arches adorn the spa, for a modern yet antique vibe, and wood
floors in the pool area and fitness center feel extra luxurious. Retiro
Park and the Puerta de Alcalá can be seen from the on-site restaurant/bar, which
also has a picturesque terrace and sunroom. Seating is red, black, and white with
umbrellas in the outdoor areas, while all common areas echo the trendy yet
historic theme of the hotel. The green courtyard stands out in the middle of
the city and there are free newspapers in the lobby. The hotel predominantly attracts discerning couples, but welcomes children and business travelers as well.
Location
On a main road in an exclusive, central neighborhood, across from the Parque del Retiro
Hospes Madrid is located on a main roundabout (the Puerta de Alcalá)
in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods of the city, just across from the Parque del Retiro. Public transportation, restaurants, and high-end shops are all within walking distance, as are sights such as the Plaza de Cibeles, Plaza de Colon, National Archeological
Museum of Spain, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. A rental car is
only necessary if you plan to leave the city center of Madrid. There are bicycles available to borrow, and an area shuttle, airport shuttle, and on-site valet parking are all available, but for a fee.
Rooms
Large, contemporary rooms with soaking tubs, walk-in showers, and large windows with city views
The large, soundproofed rooms at the Hospes Madrid are decked out in a trendy blend of fabrics, colors, and finishes to add to the
contemporary-meets-vintage hotel style. An antique metallic bedside table
set against a textured purple velvet headboard, bedspread, and pillows is
a perfect example of the attention to the hotel’s history and current trends.
Some rooms also have wood beams and wood flooring, but all are comfortable and
functional, and have stylish white and chrome seating areas. Flat-screen TVs, bathrobes,
slippers, and fully stocked minibars are in each room, and in-room massages are
available.Bathrooms are large, include an abundance of designer toiletries, and have great lighting. Big soaking tubs and walk-in showers with
rainfall shower heads are standard in all bathrooms. There is a separate toilet
room with frosted glass, but no door on the bathroom area; this lack of privacy isn't for everyone. The white sinks are lined with bronze, for a trendy effect, and the white/gray tile is polished and
contemporary.
