Bottom Line

This upper-middle-range hotel is a popular pick among business travelers for its close proximity to the airport and IFEMA exhibition center. It features 285 spacious rooms with laminate floors, contemporary decor, and flat-screen TVs. However, the hotel is light on property features. It offers a business center, several lounges -- including a Nintendo Wii gaming area -- meeting rooms, and a snack bar. But the hotel lacks a fitness center and a pool, and the restaurant is in the hotel next door. Those who want to explore Madrid’s attractions may want to note that there is no easy access to public transportation.

Scene

A business-oriented hotel featuring contemporary decor

Axor Feria Hotel is a modern business hotel strategically located near both the airport and Madrid’s fair grounds. The lobby is a large, bright space featuring three-story windows, a couple of seating areas, and a black lacquered front desk. The dark gray floor tiling and the use of steel give it a slight industrial feel -- but the red accents and long white couches add a cool, stylish touch. This decor style extends to the rest of the common areas as well as the rooms. Overlooking the lobby are a couple of lounges, where business travelers can be seen reading the newspaper and working at their laptops. The Nintendo Wii gaming area provides guests with a fun spot to play or to get a short workout.

Location

Near the airport, but far from the city center

The hotel’s location a five-minute drive away from the airport is convenient for those catching an early flight, or for business travelers working at IFEMA exhibition center. The area is pretty desolate at night, and there’s little within walking distance besides a few other hotels and a couple of malls with shops and restaurants. The city center is a 30-minute cab ride away, and there is no easy access to the metro. A few buses have stops at the end of the street and across the highway (there’s a pedestrian bridge to cross it), but guests will most likely have to transfer either to another bus or to the metro in order to reach the main attractions.

Rooms

Spacious, bright, and contemporary

The hotel offers two room types: Standard and Premium. They’re all spacious, exterior-facing, and contemporary, with white, gray and red decor, and laminate floors. Bathrooms feature large walk-in showers, hotel-brand toiletries, and heated towel racks. LCD TVs with satellite channels, stocked minibars, safes, and 100 MB of free Wi-Fi are all standard amenities. Premium Rooms feature a couple of nice extras, such as in-room laptops, coffeemakers with free coffee, and upgraded toiletries. The hotel offers babysitting services and cots, but families looking to stay in this area may want to check out sister property Axor Barajas -- located right next door -- as it has a number of rooms with bunk beds.

Features

The hotel features many business-oriented amenities

The hotel was clearly designed with the business traveler in mind. It features a ton of great amenities for those in town for work, including several fully equipped meeting rooms, a spacious business center, and free shuttle service to/from the airport and to IFEMA exhibition center on major fair days. Additionally, there are several lounges -- one with soothing music; one with a Nintendo Wii, and another one where guests can read international press, magazines, or watch the news. The snack bar, offering small bites, coffee and drinks is located in the lobby. For main meals, guests can walk to the sister property located right next door, which features a full restaurant serving Spanish and international cuisine. Breakfast buffet and on-site parking are both available for a fee.
