The
Dahlmann Campus Inn is a charming and warm, mid-range boutique hotel of 74 rooms and seven
floors. Public spaces are reminiscent of a more genteel time with classical
mid-century Baroque decor -- it essentially has the look and feel of an elite
Ivy League club with lots of wood paneling and a fireplace. Rooms are spacious, but dated and dull. The location is ideal for people visiting the University of
Wisconsin-Madison or for anyone doing business nearby, but it's also on the
edge of campus and close to rowdy sorority houses. Perks included free airport
transfers, on-site parking, and breakfast.
Scene
Elite clubhouse charm within a plain and generic looking building
What
looks like a plain generic hotel from the outside, is actually an attractive
hotel on the inside. Much like country clubs, the hotel is styled in a preppy
fashion, with rich color selections and ornate details throughout the space.
Hallways are lined with thick jade-green carpets and cream wallpaper. Guests should
expect lots of wood paneling in the common areas, brass accents here and there,
tasteful statuettes, knick-knacks, and crystal bowls scattered about. A wooden
mantle, brass accessories, and brown leather chairs surround the lobby
fireplace.
Location
On the eastern edge of campus, near fraternities and sororities and State Street restaurants
The
location is ideal for people visiting the university or for anyone doing
business in Madison. The
big downside to being so close to the university is that the surrounding area
can be loud and rowdy from the row of frat houses and student
"off-campus" housing. But if visitors are aware of that, being close
to the school can also be a huge convenience, as there are local shops and restaurants are
around the corner. For young college candidates, the hotel is in a central
location between the academic and student life buildings, and the admission
center is just a 10-minute walk away. 15-minutes away by foot are local
attractions, including the Wisconsin Historical Museum and the Wisconsin State
Capitol.
Rooms
Dated decor, coffee makers, flat-screen TVs, and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries
Rich
dark woods, maroon, gold, and jade accent colors add dated flair to all of the carpeted rooms, which
include coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and an iron and ironing board.
Bathrooms aren’t large, but are just big enough for the shower and tub combos;
Gilchrist and Soames toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Rooms can get a
lot of noise from the street outside, which also houses student organizations
and is a hub for nightlife. In addition to the Standard Rooms, the hotel also
offers four suites: Parlor, Regent, Governor, and Presidential. These suites
include a
fully furnished living area with sofas and coffee tables. The Governor and
Presidential suites are the largest of the four and also include wet bar and a refrigerator
stocked with beers, sodas, and water. The bathrooms include marble accents and
whirlpool tubs.
Features
Small fitness center, free Wi-Fi, parking, and breakfast
The Dahlmann Campus Inn has
amenities out of convenience rather than luxury. Free airport transfers are
available. Food options include a free hot breakfast buffet, then cocktails, coffee, and desserts in the
Chancellor's Club. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
Underground parking is also included, but guest should note that spaces can run
out fast during college game day.
