Hotel
La Residence is a basic but comfortable mid-range hotel located on the
corner of a pedestrian shopping street in central Lyon. Its 67 rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs,
minibars, and free Wi-Fi, and there are several accessible rooms for
people with reduced mobility. The decor of the public spaces, like
the hallways and breakfast room, is somewhat dated but generally tidy
and clean. Overall, the hotel lacks personality, but
it scores marks with guests for cleanliness and its location within
walking distance of tourist sights. Travelers should also consider
the centrally located Mercure Lyon Centre Beaux Arts that has
comparable rates but offers better value with rooms with iPod docks
and Nespresso machines, a lobby bar, and free electric
bicycles for guests' use.
Scene
A simple mid-range property with dated and uninspiring decor
Hotel
La Residence occupies the upper floors of a six-story building
located on the corner of a pedestrian shopping street. The
ground floor looks like a shopfront with large windows, and the lobby
area has a dated look, with paneled drop ceilings, wood-paneled walls,
and square '70s-style red and white faux-leather sofas. In the lobby, a coffee machine and a cabinet with wine bottles invite guests to relax and linger. The hallway
walls are painted in a cream color decorated with a pale green trim,
and matching pale green carpets cover the floors. The best feature of
the interior of the building is its original stone staircase with
wrought-iron railings. Most of the guests staying here are couples
traveling as tourists, but the hotel is also very popular with
families because of the availability of Triple and Quadruple guest
rooms.
Location
In central Lyon on the corner of a pedestrian shopping street
Hotel
La Residence is located on the corner of a pedestrian shopping street
in the Presqu'ile district in the center of Lyon, a two-minute walk
from Place Bellecour. The nearest metro station is Ampère - Victor
Hugo, a three-minute walk away. It's a 15-minute walk to Vieux Lyon
(Old Lyon) the city's historic
city center, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The
nearest train station is Gare de Lyon-Perrache, a six-minute drive (or 17-minute walk) away, while Lyon-Saint Exupery Airport is a 30-minute drive from the
hotel (without traffic).
Rooms
Clean and simply decorated guest rooms
The
neat and clean Single, Double, Triple and Quadruple Rooms at
Hotel La Residence are simply decorated with mahogany-colored
furniture, red or lime-green curtains and bed runners, and dark wall-to-wall carpets. Convenient features include minibars and electric kettles for tea or coffee. The bathrooms vary in size and each has either a
large walk-in shower or a shower/tub combo -- some reveal a few signs
of wear and tear, like dirty grout. Hairdryers are provided. In some guest rooms, toilets are separate from the bathrooms. The double glass windows, thick
curtains, and double doors (in some rooms) help reduce ambient street
noise. Still, some guests have complained about being woken up by early-morning garbage collection, and noise from neighboring rooms.
All the guest rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with flat-screen TVs, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Several accessible rooms are also available.
Features
Breakfast service and free Wi-Fi available
There
are few extra features on offer at Hotel La Residence. A basic
continental breakfast is served daily in the breakfast room and can
also be delivered to the guest rooms. The breakfast offerings get mixed reviews from guests. Free Wi-Fi is available
throughout the hotel, and a computer with free Internet access is
provided in the lobby area. Guests can use the capsule coffee machine
in the lobby. There's also wine in a cabinet in the lobby. Parking is available nearby for an extra fee.
