Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center

This relaxed resort is set on sprawling grounds situated on a hillside, offering lovely views over the bay and surrounding mountain. It’s a lovely setting, and the scenery is stunning. Palm trees, flower beds, and grassy lawns stud the property, as do kitschy, larger-than-life figures of Donald Duck, pirates, dinosaurs, and the like – from Disney characters to the statue of liberty, the selection of statues is eclectic and can feel gaudy, but it can be fun for kids.

When it comes to decor, interiors are a mix of bland, functional spaces, and pleasant rooms outfitted with a bit more style. There are the black pleather couches in the plain and practical lobby – a contrast to the vibrant color of Blu Bar, where turquoise walls are met with blue and white chairs with whimsical cut-out designs. Overall, there’s a bit of wear and tear and the resort could use some revamps, both inside and out. Nevertheless, it’s a decent choice for travelers on a budget, and it especially draws families and groups. Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center entrance fee is covered in room rates; day-trippers have to pay an entrance fee.

Situated alongside Blue Lagoon Beach, the resort occupies a beautiful hillside setting backed by mountains and offering gorgeous views over Pasaleng Bay. The sprawling, 17-acre grounds include a lovely beach. There are lots of other properties lining the coast here, as well as a handful of dining options within walking distance. Nearby attractions include the Bantay Abot Cave (eight-minute drive away), Paraiso Ni Anton (18-minute drive), and the Bangui Windmills (one-hour drive). Laoag International Airport is around a two-hour drive away.

Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center offers a choice rooms, suites, villas, and dorms. They’re small and decor is homey and a bit dated, but the spaces are relatively clean (though some past guests have complained of maintenance issues). Expect floral bedspreads paired with clashing patterned curtains, plus furnishings like tufted pleather sofas. Prints and paintings dot the walls; some rooms have crystal chandeliers; and small shag rugs line tiled floors. Window views include sea or mountain options.

Suites come in one- and two-bedroom configurations and sleep from six to 10 people. The Presidential Suite adds perks like a home theater system, whirlpool tub with audio and video system, and breakfast included in rates. Villas sleep two to four people, while dorms, which are furnished with bunk beds, sleep eight to 22 people and are a good choice for groups on a budget.

All rooms have flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Other standard amenities include air-conditioning and fridges – but there’s no Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are rather small and simple, and have garnered complaints regarding water issues and other maintenance problems. They’re equipped with showers, plus toiletries are provided.

The main dining option here is Hannah’s Resto, a homey place that serves Filipino classics as well as international fare. It offers both a la carte options and a buffet, and it’s open from 6 a.m. to midnight. Outdoor space is available for alfresco dining. Room service is available. Food and drinks are also available at the hotel’s Blue Bar, with music in the evenings, plus there’s a poolside bar. Guests should note that food at this resort receives mixed reviews.

Hannah's Beach Resort and Convention Center offers an array of features and activities, particularly catering to families. One of the main attractions here is the lovely stretch of beach, with clear waters and a sandy shore. A number of water sports are available, including banana boats, pedal boats, speed boats, Jet-Skiing, surfing, snorkeling, and kayaking, and there are cabanas lining the shore. There’s even a zipline over the beach that goes over the water.

For an alternative to the beach, the resort also has five small outdoor pools, including a kids’ pool with a little waterslide and an infinity pool overlooking the bay. Loungers line the pool decks, plus there are some shaded seating areas – but the areas show their age (as do most facilities across the property) and could use some updating.

Kids are catered to with outdoor play areas, plus there’s a game room with board games. A number of activities are available (for a fee), like ATV rentals, hikes around the area, and tours to nearby attractions. There a small fitness center on-site, that though dated, offers a decent variety of equipment. There’s also a basketball court. Other wellness features include massage services and a sauna.

The on-site convention center is available for a variety of functions, including conferences, meetings, team-building, weddings, and other events. It can accommodate up to 400 people. Shuttles to and from the airport are available for a fee. Note that there’s no Wi-Fi in rooms here, and it’s only available in the front office.
