Club Punta Fuego is a four-pearl property surrounded on all sides by gorgeous beach coves in an area that’s about an hour and 15-minute drive from Batangas City. While the hotel has great outdoor areas that blend beautiful nature with infinity pools and Spanish-Mediterranean architecture, the interior design, especially in the most affordable category in the 49 rooms, is a bit bland. That doesn’t take away from the fact that there’s plenty to do here: swim, enjoy a spa, eat at one of the three restaurants, or enjoy tennis. There’s even a golf course and (dated) gym, but they’re a few miles away by hotel shuttle. Pico Sands Hotel is a good nearby alternative with more modern rooms.
Scene
Hotel with lovely grounds, ocean views, and contemporary interiors
Set on a sloping hill, Club Punta Fuego features Spanish-Mediterranean architecture that takes advantage of the seafront location with lovely ocean views from restaurants and rooms. The grounds are a mix of lovely greenery, stone paths, and beautiful infinity pools that create an overall serene atmosphere. But while the exterior is idyllic, the interior is far from luxurious. The lobby is a simple open-air room with stone floors that contrast with the minimalist woven outdoor furniture with gold padding. The restaurants have a similar low-key design -- often with open-air elements -- with heavy emphasis on wood accents, bamboo furniture, or simple wooden chairs. The clientele is quite diverse -- families are drawn here for policies like children under 11 stay for free. The most often cited complaints are poor front desk service and the fact that additional requests -- either in rooms or in the restaurant -- are generally met with pesky fees.
Location
Remote location surrounded by beach coves and over an hours' drive to Batangas City
Club Punta Fuego is surrounded by beach coves, making it the perfect getaway for beach adventures. However, those looking for lots to do off-site will be disappointed. Set near the Natipuan area of the Batangas Province, the area is mostly filled with hotels, resorts and local homes. For other dining options, travelers will have to visit other resorts’ restaurants. To enjoy the benefits of a city, Balayan is an hour- and 30-minute drive away. Batangas City takes an hour- and 15-minute drive to reach. It’s a two-hour drive to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Rooms
Pleasant rooms with minibars and lovely balconies with ocean views
Decor is contemporary with soft ocean green color schemes or earthy oranges and golds. For the most part, the rooms are filled with simple aspects like white tiled floors and platform beds accented by plain brown or black wooden furniture with some visible scuffing. The rooms are clean and come with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Wi-Fi is free but reportedly of poor quality in the rooms. The furnished balconies are by far the best aspect, as many offer ocean views. The tan-tiled bathrooms are more dated with visible lime scale than those with white tile, wooden accents, and white vessel sinks. All bathrooms offer showers, toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Infinity pools and beach access are top perks, followed by three dining options and a golf course nearby
The hotel’s beachfront location to 12 private beach coves allows guests to enjoy non-motorized sports and fun in the sand and sea. For those who prefer pools, there’s one family pool near the beach, two infinity pools, and a children’s pool that's filled with floating plastic balls. There’s plenty of other entertainment that ranges from a game room to a mini-theater, and even outdoor sports activities like squash, tennis, and mini-golf. Guests can relax with a massage or beauty treatment at the on-site spa. A gym is available, but it’s a few miles away by shuttle and is reportedly in poor condition.
San Diego is the main restaurant here, a buffet restaurant, that begins the day with a free hot and cold buffet breakfast. There’s also an Italian restaurant on the beach and a relaxed Member’s Lounge that serves drinks and food. Note that men are not allowed to wear tank tops in the buffet restaurant, and restaurant service has received some complaints. Event spaces include seven fully-equipped meeting rooms for business travelers or weddings. A Yacht Club and the hotel’s nine-hole golf course (located a few miles away) offer upscale vacation experiences. Wi-Fi and parking are free.
