Le Bel Air Boutique Resort is a small and stylish resort with just 21 rooms located on the opposite side of the Nam Khan River from the heritage area of Luang Prabang. Rooms here are in old wood houses looking out at a large garden and the river, or else in private bungalows in the garden, and they have fine wood floors, nice terraces, and plenty of modern amenities. The Deluxe rooms have bathtubs to go with separate showers, and there is free WiFi and breakfast. The scenic Old Bridge Bar and Grill serves Lao and western food overlooking the bridge and river, and the spacious garden area has sun loungers and swing seats to relax in. It's a long walk to the temples and main sights of town, but the riverside location is a pleasant escape. The resort is more expensive than some of the nearby properties like My Dream Boutique, but it also has a prime location on the river and the rooms are more elegant. It's a good choice if you don't want to stay right in town.
Scene
This green outdoorsy property consists of a lush garden with restored teak wood traditional Lao buildings.
Le Bel Air Boutique Resort has spacious and lush grounds. The resort sits along the Nam Khan River and there is a huge garden area with sun loungers and quiet niches to read or relax in. There isn't much of a lobby or reception area -- just a small check-in desk with another larger open-air sitting area that has huge teak wood chairs. The property is comprised of traditional old Lao houses along with the big open garden space. High-end teak wood features prominently in all the buildings and rooms here, and the resort is quite aesthetically pleasing. Other than the garden, the most popular public space is the atmospheric restaurant, which overlooks both the river and the non-automobile Old Bridge.
Location
Located outside of town across the Old Bridge and Nam Khan River
Le Bel Air Boutique Resort is located on the opposite side of the Nam Khan River from the town center. It's just 10 minutes' drive from the airport. While the main UNESCO heritage area and town center is a 20- to 25-minute walk, guests can also bicycle there in 10 minutes using the resort's free bikes. The non-automobile Old Bridge is right next to the resort, and is quite atmospheric; however, it can be rather daunting to cross, most certainly on foot, with plenty of loose wooden planks. There are not so many restaurants or bars on this side of the river, although there is a shortcut into the old town via a bamboo bridge across the Nam Khan that costs 75 cents to access. There isn't any traffic once inside the resort, as it sits below the bridge and street, but there is a popular backpacker bar across the river that plays loud music every night which takes away much of the tranquil and quiet feel here.
Rooms
Fine teak wood floors, large terraces with garden views, and modern amenities
There are only 21 rooms at Le Bel Air Boutique; three standard Classic rooms, nine Deluxe, and then nine private garden bungalows. All of the rooms have beautiful teak wood floors, and there are spacious and pleasant terraces to sit on overlooking the garden, although the Classic rooms don't have their own private terraces, just shared areas. All rooms come with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs with cable channels, minibars, electric hot water kettles for coffee and tea, safes, free Wi-Fi, and fans and air-conditioning. The Deluxe rooms have the nicest bathrooms with separate bathtubs plus small rain showers, whereas the other rooms only have showers. The top-tier bungalows have a bit more space, plus an extra daybed, and are set looking out into the garden with open views, whereas the Deluxe rooms look down from above and with a lot of foliage in the way. All rooms include free breakfast.
Features
Bar and Grill restaurant overlooking the river and bridge, spacious garden with sun loungers to relax in, free bicycles
Le Bel Air Boutique only has 21 rooms, thus it doesn't have many extra features like a swimming pool or fitness center. It does have the Old Bridge Bar and Grill restaurant, which has a scenic spot above the river and non-vehicle bridge, and it serves up a range of cuisines from local Lao specialties like Mekong river weed to burgers and tuna sandwiches and even Australian beef tenderloin steaks. Other than the restaurant, the hotel has a large garden that is full of trees, sun loungers, swing chairs, and nice niches to relax in along the river. There is also an open-air boutique shop here that has Lao women weaving local textiles on two old looms, and there are silks, shirts, scarves, and other products one can buy here. The resort has free bicycles for guests to use, and there is also a free shuttle service to and from town many times per day.
