Los Cabos Golf Resort is -- on the surface -- one of Cabo San Lucas’ better three-and-a-half-pearl options for travelers seeking an affordable golf getaway. A two-tiered pool, an alfresco Mexican restaurant, and a large, grotto-style hot tub round out the decent list of amenities. The 74 rooms are spacious and modern, with kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and private balconies. However, the hotel’s semi-secluded location means a lack of anything in the immediate vicinity; the one-room spa is forgettable; and the aggressive time share pitches detract from the upmarket appeal of the rooms. Those who'd rather be close to the beach and party scene in town should consider Bahia Hotel & Beach Club, which has similar rates and a foodie restaurant, just be sure to ask for an updated room.
Scene
Laid-back, secluded golf resort with a relaxed, adult-centric vibe
Los Cabos Golf Resort can be a relatively pleasant place for a golf getaway provided guests manage their expectations. There are a few different styles at play throughout the resort, and depending on where guests find themselves, decor can range from classically Mexican to rustic to vibrant and sharp. Upon check-in, guests are greeted by a tasteful stone and stucco facade and a bright, open-concept lobby -- all of which offers a whiff of sophistication. However, the property feels a bit dated and lacks the upscale panache that it’s striving to exude. The outdoor terrace -- with its two large pools, grotto-style hot tub, and alfresco restaurant -- is a quiet, relaxed space geared more toward older couples than families. However, like the adjacent golf course which is clearly the resort’s biggest selling point, the overall vibe is certainly buttoned up. Additionally, guests should be aware that previous guests have been subjected to aggressive and lengthy time share pitches.
Location
On a professional golf course, a 10-minute drive to downtown Cabo San Lucas
Situated on a dead-end road amid a massive, 18-hole country club, there are no other attractions or points of interest near Los Cabos Golf Resort. To see any of the area's sights or to reach the beach, guests here will need a car. The popular restaurants and shops of downtown Cabo San Lucas are a 10-minute drive away, as is the nearest public beach -- Medano Beach. A Walmart and large shopping mall are less than five minutes away by car for guests looking to stock their in-room kitchenettes. The most convenient international airport -- Los Cabos International (SJD) -- is 40 minutes away by car. It's about 10 minutes north of San Jose del Cabo, a charming alternative to the boozy goings on in Cabo San Lucas.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms feature kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and private, furnished balconies
The rooms might be the most pleasant feature at this hotel -- except for the unaffiliated high-end golf course next door. Fit and finish is excellent, and includes granite countertops, travertine tile flooring, and plush upholstery. There are funky, modern design elements, including bold patterns, knit-style ottomans, heavy dark wood furniture, and shabby-chic wicker seating throughout the rooms.Ten room categories vary in size, configuration, and amenities, though standard features include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, kitchenettes (with refrigerators, microwaves, sinks, and electric cooktops), and private, furnished balconies. Wi-Fi is only available via paid daily or multi-day plans. Entry-level Executive Villas offer studio floor plans while One Bedroom Villas and Two Bedroom Villas have substantially larger, multi-room layouts, including multiple bathrooms and two balconies -- one with a private hot tub. Penthouse Villas provide three or more bedrooms and pullout furniture to sleep up to 12 guests. These top-of-the-line categories offer a host of additional amenities, from huge flat-screen TVs to hot tubs in the master bathroom to private rooftop pool decks and gardens. Bathrooms vary widely between room categories. Most feature walk-in shower stalls, tray sinks, and roomy granite vanities. Generic bath amenities are standard across all categories.
Features
An alfresco Mexican restaurant and two lovely pools with a grotto-style hot tub, but a lackluster spa
Aside from easy access to the adjacent golf course, features are relatively limited here. The only on-site restaurant and bar, Double Eagle, provides casual dining in a mixed open-air and alfresco space that wraps around the pool terrace. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus feature a variety of cuisines, from traditional Mexican to fusion fare.Adjacent the restaurant, two freeform pools serve as the social centerpiece of the resort. Nearby, a sizable hot tub provides additional relaxation space. Rows of lounge chairs and umbrellas line the pool edges with plenty of room for guests to spread out. A staircase leads guests down a basement-like corridor that opens to a grotto-style hot tub with a large, cauldron-shaped water feature that serves as the focal point for the entire outdoor terrace. The hotel’s advertised wellness amenities -- a spa and fitness center -- are each crammed into dark, forgettable rooms that feel like afterthoughts. The spa provides only basic massage treatments, manicures, and pedicures. The fitness room has just three cardio machines, two workout benches, and a stack of free weights. While the neighboring Cabo San Lucas Country Club is not technically part of the resort, golf cart transportation is available to and from the greens. It has 18 holes and a pro shop.Free self-parking is provided in numbered spaces located right outside each room. Wi-Fi in the common areas is only available via the same paid daily plans required for in-room access.
