Las Ventanas al Paraiso is one of the most luxurious resorts in Mexico. The service is impeccable -- you won't go more than a few feet without finding staff who can help you, guide you, or answer any questions you might have. That level of attention is complemented by the resort's features, including a spa, gourmet dining, butlers for all guests, and spacious rooms tricked out in gorgeous traditional decor. This is the kind of place you come to be spoiled, and romance abounds. The beach bar, with its dramatic fire pit, is a swoon-worthy spot at night, while the pools that form the heart of the property make a dramatic visual statement. If you're looking for equally attentive service with a slightly more modern vibe, check out One&Only Palmilla instead.
Scene
Exclusive, tranquil, and classic resort with a beautiful beachfront setting and manicured grounds
While there are a number of luxury hotels between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, only a handful are the type of old-school property that's on par with Las Ventanas al Paraiso. In fact, the only direct competition might be One&Only Palmilla. There are a number of similarities between the two when it comes to service -- this is the kind of hotel where you should expect to see uniformed staff every dozen feet or so, all of them ready to get you to where you want to be, retrieve something for you, answer any questions, and arrange any services. This is a place where you should expected to be catered to and spoiled, and draws the wealthy or those splurging on special occasions. It deserves that reputation, of course, and is a beautiful, tranquil property where desert landscaping is perfectly manicured, mirror-like infinity pools look out to the crashing sea, and you're welcomed with a head and neck massage upon arriving (after, of course, sipping your welcome drink and being escorted by guest services to the spa). From there, a butler walks you to your room, and offers you a tour of the grounds. If you prefer total privacy and independence, this may not be the place for you, as service is omnipresent. If that's the case, check out more laid-back luxury options like Esperanza or Chileno Bay Resort & Residences.
Location
On the beach, a 15-minute drive from the quaint center of San Jose del Cabo
Las Ventanas is part of the same development that is home to the Hilton Los Cabos, though it feels miles away from typical chain resort trappings. Instead, once you're on-site, Las Ventanas is a high-class world unto itself. That being said, you won't be walking to any sights from here, and reaching anything of note will require a taxi ride, car service, or hopping in your rental car. The quaint center of San Jose, where the Thursday Night Art Walk is a major draw, is a 15-minute drive from the resort, while the closest swimmable beach is Playa el Chileno, less than a 10-minute drive away. The center of Cabo San Lucas will take 20 minutes to reach by car, and it's about 75 minutes to Todos Santos. Budget 30 minutes to reach the airport.
Rooms
Large suites with butler service, aromatherapy, and beautiful balconies, plus great freebies
Even entry-level suites here are something to marvel at, with massive floor plans divided into dining areas, bedrooms, living rooms, huge bathrooms, and even tucked-away kitchenettes. They feel like a home away from home -- if your home happens to be tricked out in beautiful Mexican decor. Striking details include carved hardwood furniture, gorgeous stone inlay headboards and floors, and wood-beam ceilings. Don't overlook the smaller free perks, like free Clase Azul tequila (and snacks) when you check in. The peaceful vibe of the resort carries over seamlessly to the rooms and suites here, and -- in most -- the views of the ocean are amazing. Those are made all the more beautiful by the balconies, which include space for dining and lounging. Of course, given this resort's luxury status, various categories include all manner of bells and whistles (from private pools to multiple bedrooms and the like). If you're really seeking privacy and luxury-level extras, opt for one of the Signature VillasAll suites come with turndown service that includes aromatherapy, plenty of closet space, butlers (plus packing and unpacking services), incredibly comfortable beds, and spa-level bathrooms with soaking tubs, walk-in showers, and high-end bath products. Some of the in-room tech is a bit dated -- like the TVs, in particular, but other standards include air-conditioning, telephones, ceiling fans, and free Wi-FI.
Features
Gourmet and casual dining options, beautiful pools, and a tranquil spa are just some highlights
This resort has numerous strong suits, and its dining program is particularly excellent. There are numerous places to enjoy a meal here, including El Restaurante, which is the hotel's gourmet Mexican restaurant and the most formal of the dining spots. If you'd prefer Asian, head to Arbol, which is located by the hotel's newest pool and is charmingly lit up at night. Our favorite dining spot during our 2018 visit was Sea Grill, which has beautiful views across the sea and beach. Breakfast is an indulgent experience, with endless trays of fresh pastries, numerous juice options, and a mix of local and international main courses all included in the price. Lunches and dinners are also served here, while the Tequila and Ceviche Bar makes for a lovely casual spot as well. Looking for romance? Head to the sunken beach bar at night, where a fire pit warms things up and adds some cuddle-worthy appeal. Butlers can coordinate all meals with reservations and dining restrictions, as well as organize in-room dining (available 24/7)There are two main pool complexes here, with the newest addition being the one found next to Arbol. The main pool is the true stunner, though, with infinity edges creating mirror-like effects that reflect the beautiful landscaping of the property. Numerous loungers are found all around, with service omnipresent. There are also loungers and cabanas on the beach (as well as service), but you can't swim in the water here. For an alternative way to relax, the spa offers free use of its hydrotherapy circuit, as well as a range of massages and treatments. It's also where the free welcome massage takes place upon arrival. A spa boutique sells products, while another boutique sells clothing, art, and gifts. The fitness center is more of a proper gym, and trainers are on hand (yoga and other programs are also offered). A kids' club is available for families. Wi-Fi and valet parking are both free.
