The four-pearl Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa has a prime spot within easy walking distance to popular beach clubs, and directly on Playa el Medano (the most swimmable beach in Cabo). Renovations started in early 2017, and Cabo Villas has already added a beachfront restaurant, gorgeous private beach area, and an updated lobby to the two outdoor pools (one with a swim-up bar), spacious sundeck, and tranquil spa already on-site. Ranging in size from Studio Suites to a massive Penthouse, all 138 rooms are contemporary with flat-screen TVs and balconies -- though only rooms on the higher levels have decent ocean views. A second renovation to add more rooms and a fitness center, is expected to be completed in 2018. Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa is another upscale beach option, and rates there are all-inclusive. *Note that the hotel will change its name to Cachet Beach Hotel Los Cabos, in 2018
Scene
Lively resort under renovations until 2018
In early 2017, Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa began the first phase of renovation and rebranding which is expected to last until late 2018. The first phase brought the private Cachet Beach Club, beachfront Aleta Restaurant, and a new lobby and was completed when the Oyster team visited in May 2017. The second phase of renovations are expected to be finished in 2018 with more rooms, a fitness center, and the new name: Cachet Beach Hotel Los Cabos. Previously known for being family-friendly and geared towards older leisure travelers, Cabo Villas is rebranding itself with a focus towards younger travelers and a more lively party scene with the name change in 2018. Some repeat guests have already noted the increased volume of music with the new beach club and a more vibrant scene by the pool, though there is a smaller, quieter adult-only pool for those seeking respite from the noise.
Location
In downtown Cabo San Lucas and beachfront to Playa El Medano
In the heart of Cabo San Lucas, Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa has an ideal location directly on Playa el Medano and within easy walking distance to popular beach clubs and restaurants, like Edith’s or The Office on the Beach. The marina is an eight-minute drive or 30-minute walk from the hotel. While Playa el Medano is the most swimmable beach in Cabo, it can get pretty crowded and loud with cruise ships docking, locals hawking their wares, and parties at surrounding beach clubs. The slightly quieter Costa Azul Beach is a 25-minute drive from the hotel, and has some public parking available. The small, quaint cobblestone streets of San Jose del Cabo are a 30-minute drive from Cabo Villas Beach Resort. San Jose del Cabo features a lively art scene with several galleries, as well as plenty of history with beautiful old buildings and churches. The smaller Cabo San Lucas International Airport is a 20-minute drive from the hotel. The larger, more popular Los Cabos International Airport is a 37-minute drive. For those looking to stick to Cabo San Lucas, renting a car isn’t necessary as taxis are easy to hail, and most restaurants and tourist attractions are within easy walking distance.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with private balconies -- only higher level rooms have ocean views
The 138 suites at Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa range in size from Studio Suites to massive Penthouses, but all are contemporary and stylish with colors skewing towards blue, beige, and black. Studio Suites are the most simple of the room categories, as they have neither a kitchenette nor a minibar. The One Bedroom Deluxe Suite comes with a kitchenette -- microwave, dishware, and mini-fridge -- while the One and Two Bedroom Executive Suites and Penthouses come with a kitchenette (some have full kitchens) and a fully-stocked minibar for a fee. All rooms come with king-size beds, flat-screen TVs, premium cable, free Wi-Fi, and nightly turndown service. The yoga mats in the closets are an especially nice extra. Penthouse Suites provide laundry facilities. While all rooms come with a private deck, most of the lower level rooms have little to no view, and rooms closest to the pool can be noisy throughout the day. Higher level rooms tend to have the best ocean views, but some guests have mentioned the rooftop sports bar and neighboring beach clubs can remain loud until late at night.Bathrooms are moderately sized to spacious and well-appointed with toiletries, a hairdryer, and plenty of towels. Bathrooms come with standing showers decorated with beige stone seeded walls and rainfall showerheads. The Penthouse Suites have a whirlpool on their balconies. Note: construction is ongoing and Cabo Villas will be adding more rooms in 2018.
