After 10 years of planning and a reported $200 million dollar budget, the much anticipated Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills opened in 2017. It's a strong contender for best luxury hotel in Los Angeles. The Art Deco Modern wonder has 119 rooms and 51 suites designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, and each features a state-of-the-art Creston room control, Diptyque and Ferragamo toiletries, and a private balcony. Guests are assigned a private concierge upon arrival, available 24-hours via text. Jean-Georges Beverly Hills offers fine dining and a celebrity clientele, while the 12th floor, The Rooftop by JG, provides a chic pool and sweeping views of the Golden Triangle. The La Prairie Spa is the only place in town to find the prestigious Swiss skincare line. For a more iconic luxury hotel, The Beverly Hills Hotel is widely celebrated.
Scene
Luxury Art Deco Modern by Waldorf Astoria
Opened in 2017, after 10 years of planning and around 200 million dollars in budget, the debut West Coast hotel of the brand, Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills left nothing to chance and spared no expense for design and luxury. The Art Deco Modern hotel was built by architectural firms Perkins+Will and Gensler, the dining program is by celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the La Prairie Spa is exclusive to Los Angeles, and spectacular room interiors were designed by famed French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. It's also one of the tallest buildings (13 floors, counting the rooftop) in Beverly Hills and offers stunning city and hills views from rooms and public areas. The opulent lobby feels bright and airy; it's decorated with a massive chandelier and scented with French Diptyque candles. Clientele is really anyone who can afford the rates, from celebrities to international families on vacation.
Location
Adjacent to the Beverly Hilton on the Golden Triangle in Beverly Hills
As the name suggests, the hotel is in Beverly Hills, an enclave of wealthy living and luxury shopping in the middle of L.A.'s westside, at the busy intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards. The hotel was once the site of the iconic tiki bar: Trader Vics. The nearest neighbor is the Beverly Hilton and there's a nearby Starbucks, but little else of interest within immediate walking distance. Most guests arrive in luxury cars anyway. - Six-minute drive to Rodeo Drive for iconic shopping and restaurants
Rooms
Glamorous Modern Art Deco rooms and suites with luxe finishes and sweeping views
The hotel has 119 units divided into Guest Rooms, Suites, and Penthouse Suites -- and there are only 18 rooms per floor for additional privacy. Each room has an emphasis on Modern Art Deco that looks both glamorous and of the moment. The color scheme varies between green, baby blue, brown, and gold. Sizes range from roughly 537 square feet for the standard Superior Room up to the 3,215-square-foot Presidential Suite. The Hollywood Suite faces the hills and offers two full bathrooms, a living room, dining table, and a soaking tub. All rooms come standard with a Creston master room control (with specified lighting), espresso machine, flat-screen TV, free and fast Wi-Fi, gourmet minibar, and private furnished balcony. The marble bathrooms feature metallic finishes and offer a spacious bathtub and a walk-in shower, plus Diptyque and Ferragamo toiletries. Evening turndown service is a standard and luxurious touch.
Features
Personal concierge, Jean-Georges dining, and super chic rooftop pool
It's no surprise that the availability of features are as well thought out and luxurious as the guest rooms and hotel design. On arrival, guests are assigned a personal concierge who can assist with everything from dinner reservations to dry cleaning. The dining program is by super star chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The Rooftop by JG is on the 13th floor, near the pool. It offers green dining chairs and sweeping city views, plus there's a huge fireplace for chilly nights. For something more formal, Jean-Georges Beverly Hills is the fine-dining all-day restaurant. Room service is available 24 hours. There's also a lobby bar for cocktails and coffees. To relax, the almost blindingly white rooftop deck and pool is ultra chic and poolside service is on point. The La Prairie Spa (exclusive to this hotel in Los Angeles) has six sumptuous treatment rooms and a huge spa menu. There's also a Joseph Martin salon for beauty services. The fitness center is fully loaded with up-to-date equipment and is open 24 hours. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. For events, there's a massive 5600 square feet of beautifully decorated meeting space. Valet parking costs extra, and on our visit the valet actually leaned into the open car window and buckled our seatbelt.
