The 43-room Tilt Hotel Universal / Hollywood is a budget hotel off the 101 highway that’s within a 10-minute drive of several major attractions. The movie-themed rooms are comfortable and modern with coffeemakers, and some have microwaves and mini-fridges (for a fee). Wi-Fi is free and there are laundry facilities on-site, along with free tea and coffee in the lobby. Parking is available on-site for a fee that's significantly less than what guests would pay for public lot access. Breakfast isn't served, and some rooms are a bit dim. This is a decent option for the price, but guests may want to check out Days Inn Hollywood/Universal Studios, which has a brighter feeling and a lovely outdoor pool.
Scene
A modern value hotel with a comfortable, though dimly lit, atmosphere
The well-maintained Tilt Hotel has a relaxed atmosphere along with a modern, Hollywood aesthetic. Guests enter through the covered parking garage, which feels something like a basement and sets the tone for what is an overall dimly lit property. Colorful neon signs, such as one that reads Box Office, decorate the lobby, along with bluish mood lighting, dark laminate floors, and comfy purple sofas. Free tea and coffee are offered in the lobby, and vending machines with various drinks and snacks can be found off the hallways, which have red walls and dark gray carpeting. Flowers adorn the public areas, and movie posters hang on the walls of the parking lot. Despite different types of lighting, many of the common areas are pretty dark. Guests tend to be tourists planning to visit nearby Universal Studios and other Hollywood sights, so they don't spend too much time on-site.
Location
Off the 101 highway; under 10 minutes from many attractions
On a bustling road right off the 101 highway is the tilt Hotel Universal / Hollywood, with shops and restaurants within walking distance. The Hollywood Bowl, Universal City Walk, and Universal Studios Hollywood are a few minutes' drive from the hotel, while the Hollywood Walk of Fame and TCL Chinese Theatre are about five minutes away. The Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory are within 15 minutes' drive. The closest airport, Bob Hope Airport, is about 15 minutes away, and Los Angeles International Airport is around 35 minutes.
Rooms
Big, contemporary rooms with coffeemakers and flat-screen TVs
Large rooms are contemporary with a
Hollywood movie theme. Red accent walls, and red satin bed runners and dust ruffles add shine and
color, while gray, wood laminate floors run throughout. The headboards look like filmstrips, and there are artsy black and white photos of the Hard Rock Cafe decorating
the walls. Long, white desks add counter and workspace, with coffeemakers on
top. Each room has a flat-screen TV, and mini-fridges and
microwaves are available by request (for a daily fee). Some rooms have sofa beds,
large jetted tubs, and wet bars, as well. However, there have been past reports of a smoky smell, and some are dimly lit or have sloped floors. Bathrooms are brighter, with speckled granite countertops, and tan tiling on the floors and in the shower/tub combos; toiletries of various brands, such as Bath & Bodyworks, are provided.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, coin laundry, and paid parking
Free Wi-Fi is offered, though the signal strength varies throughout the hotel. Parking is available in the on-site lot, for a daily fee that is significantly lower than what guests would likely pay in public lots outside. Copying and faxing services are available, along with coin-operated laundry.
