Bottom Line

The 107-room four-pearl SIXTY Beverly Hills has an intimate feeling and touches of Hollywood glamour. Located just five blocks from Rodeo Drive, the SIXTY is well-positioned for tourists and business travelers, with plenty to see and do within walking distance. The hotel has a chic rooftop pool and lounge with panoramic Los Angeles views, and a clubby restaurant and bar downstairs. The compact spa has a sauna and offers massages. Upscale but not uptight, the SIXTY allows children, but isn't overly kid-friendly. Guest rooms are small but elegant, with sophisticated marble bathrooms and minibars stocked with Dean & DeLuca snacks. For similar features and prices, plus extras such as Mercedes Benz shuttle service and flexible check-out, guests should also consider Viceroy L'Ermitage Beverly Hills.

SIXTY Beverly Hills

Scene

Deep glamour, a personal feeling, and plenty of Los Angeles character

The SIXTY Beverly Hills embraces the Hollywood vibe without getting too over-the-top or kitschy. Instead, the hotel feels like a rich Los Angeles hideaway, from the tufted leather couch where guests wait for valets to deliver their cars to the ultra-chic rooftop pool lined with Swarovski crystals (which may, indeed, be a bit flashy). The lobby and first floor are dark and warm, a welcome respite from the busy, bright concrete of Wilshire Boulevard just outside. The front desk is made of gorgeous burled wood, and nearby are elegant velvet couches for lounging. The walls are hung with art photographs by Steven Klein, while Caulfield's Bar & Dining Room features a mashup of Art Deco and industrial styles such as leather banquettes and booths, chalkboard menus, and subway-tile ceilings. Above Sixty is a rooftop lounge and restaurant decorated with native plants and simple wood furniture, as well as striking panoramic views. Guests are mostly couples and business travelers looking for an intimate atmosphere and casual Los Angeles feel.

Location

Blocks from Rodeo Drive, near high-end shopping, fine dining, and the Beverly Hills scene

The SIXTY Beverly Hills is located on LA's busy Wilshire Boulevard, within a five-minute walk of ritzy Rodeo Drive. The immediate area is a heavily trafficked business district, consisting of several restaurants and shops within walking distance, although walking in LA is not a popular pastime. Still, guests can make do at this hotel without a car, if necessary. For guests who drive, the hotel charges for parking, which is valet only. There is a Whole Foods grocery store a four-minute walk away, and a Ferrari dealership next door, for window shopping. UCLA and the Greystone Mansion are each within a 10-minute drive, and the beaches at Venice and Santa Monica are less than a half-hour drive from the hotel. Los Angeles International Airport is a 25-minute drive from the SIXTY.

Rooms

Sleek black-and-white design, plus huge flat-screen TVs and glamorous bathrooms

Rooms at the SIXTY Beverly Hills have a stylish black-and-white design scheme, but they're smaller than those at the larger chain hotels. The exceptions are the various suites, which can be palatial in size, and/or come with amenities such as wine coolers, kitchenettes, and multiple balconies. All rooms at the SIXTY have handsome dark hardwood floors and small French balconies, as well as leather armchairs, small work desks, and enormous 55-inch flat-screen TVs. Rooms are also decked out with iPod docks, safes, and minibars stocked with Dean & DeLuca snacks.

Most rooms have interesting leather walls with mirror cutouts behind the beds, and artsy photographs on the walls. Linens and oversized terrycloth robes are by the luxury Italian brand Sferra. Bathrooms are tight but glam, outfitted in black marble and  oyster-shell colored mosaic tiles; some have shower/tub combos while others have walk-in shower stalls. Vanities include lighted makeup mirrors and free Ren toiletries. Suites can also come with free airport or rail station transfers. Wi-Fi requires a fee.

Features

Chic rooftop pool and lounge, contemporary restaurant, and a well-equipped fitness center

The standout feature at the SIXTY Beverly Hills is its year-round chic rooftop pool and sundeck lined with loungers, umbrellas, and six private furnished cabanas. The rooftop lounge, Above SIXTY, serves a variety of dishes and cocktails, and it shares the pool's panoramic Los Angeles views. Caulfield's serves contemporary American-Mediterranean cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with plenty of signature cocktails in a casually sophisticated dining room and handsome bar area.

The fitness center is better equipped than the typical hotel exercise room. Along with a variety of cardio machines and Cybex trainers, there is a wide assortment of equipment, including jump ropes, heavy bags, boxing gloves, kettlebells, medicine balls, BOSU, and free weights of all types. The compact spa has a two-person sauna and offers massages and facials. The hotel has three meeting rooms and ample event space, including indoor and outdoor venues. Pets are allowed for a fee.
