LEVEL Furnished Living is technically a hotel, but there are a lot of elements to this trendy four-pearl property that make it feel more like an apartment building. It caters to business travelers with long-term rentals and a business-friendly location in the center of downtown Los Angeles. Other travelers are enticed by the 303 stylish apartment-like units with kitchens and balconies, many of which have great Los Angeles views. Odd for a hotel in this price range, there’s no restaurant, bar, or breakfast on-site. Rather, LEVEL Furnished Living’s greatest amenities come in the form of an outdoor pool and large modern gym. Pets are welcome and catered to with a fenced in dog area. ACE Hotel Downtown Los Angeles is a good alternative with a hip hotel vibe, great restaurant, and sceney rooftop bar.
Scene
Chic hotel with long-term and short-term travelers, outdoor spaces, and great city views
LEVEL Furnished Living opened in 2015 as a trendy hotel that caters to both short-term and long-term travelers by offering rates that range from daily to yearly bookings. As such, it’s immediately clear that the property was designed as a stylish apartment-like property versus as a hotel. The lobby has a posh style with wooden floors and walls and black reception desks. However, the vibe is pretty low-key thanks to a trendy sitting area with a cozy couch and a MAC desktop computer. Travelers migrate to the outdoor areas to mingle and interact, especially the outdoor pool -- a great perk among properties in downtown Los Angeles. There’s a lovely outdoor barbecue patio with tables, chairs, umbrellas, and a fire pit under the watchful eye of surrounding buildings. Dictated by the business-friendly location and the long-term rentals, many guests are young business professionals. Families are drawn here, too, mostly for the spacious apartment units.
Location
Centrally located in downtown Los Angels and a 15-minute walk to STAPLES Center
It wasn’t too long ago that downtown Los Angeles wasn’t worth a visit, but over the last 10 years, the area has quickly grown into a bustling scene with lots to see and do. LEVEL Furnished Living is smack dab in the center of downtown LA surrounded by lots of cafes, restaurants, bars, and shopping. There's a Whole Foods Market just down the block and nearby restaurants range from sushi at Sugarfish to burgers at Umami Burger. The Fashion District is a seven-minute walk away, as is the Belasco Theater. The STAPLES Center, home to sport’s games and concerts, is a 15-minute walk away. Plan on a 20-minute walk to the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Los Angeles Convention Center is a 22-minute trek on foot. Beaches are further afield: it's about a 30-minute drive to Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier. For those without cars, there’s a bus stop outside the hotel and a metro stop that’s a nine-minute walk away. It’s a 50-minute drive (depending on traffic) to Los Angeles International Airport.
Rooms
Hip, spacious apartments with living rooms, kitchens, and balconies
Suites at LEVEL Furnished Living are modern and hip with neutral colored decor, wooden floors, and posh furniture. Suites are meant to have the welcoming atmosphere of a fully air-conditioned upscale urban apartment with separate bedrooms, living room areas with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, dining rooms with tables and chairs, and kitchens. Equipped with sinks, refrigerators, stoves, ovens, microwaves, and dishwashers, the kitchens have all the gadgets guests need to prepare all their meals. Unfortunately, free coffee and tea is not provided for the coffee- and tea-making facilities, which is often found in most hotels. Bathrooms vary in design with either glass showers, shower/tub combos, or separate showers and tubs. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. The apartment-style units often have extraordinary views from outdoor furnished balconies, though there are some that face an opposite wall of a nearby building. Note that housekeeping is weekly here.
Features
Leisure activities like an outdoor pool, basketball court, and modern gym; lacks dining options
As mentioned, this hotel is more like an upscale apartment building than a hotel so you won’t find a restaurant, breakfast, or bar on-site. There is a rooftop pool and hot tub, as well as a sauna and steam room in separate buildings on the rooftop deck. Guests can stay fit in the large 24-hour fitness center with modern cardio and weight equipment or with a pick-up game on the outdoor full-sized basketball court. As for business travelers, the hotel has three fully-equipped meeting rooms and an outdoor theater area serviced by a small concession stand. Pets are welcome and there’s even a doggy area, however, pets incur a pricey daily fee and deposit. Wi-Fi is free, but valet parking costs a fee.
