Bottom Line

The iconic 91-room Hotel Normandie LA is
a mid-range, boutique hotel in busy Koreatown where restaurants, the Wiltern
Theatre, and the metro are within walking distance. The property's glam-1920s style
extends to guest rooms with restored wood floors, brassy light fixtures, and white penny-tile bathrooms -- but guests complain about the lack of space for luggage, as well as street noise. Cassell’s Hamburgers, the on-site restaurant, offers
burgers and fries, and there is free fiber-optic Wi-Fi throughout. The hotel is
pet-friendly, with restrictions, and parking is valet-only for a daily fee. There is no on-site fitness center, but guests can use the
WilFit Sports Club within walking distance for free.

Scene

A historic, boutique 1920s hotel with gorgeous antique appeal

Built in the 1920s by architects Albert
Walker and Percy Eisen, the Hotel Normandie LA has a vibrant atmosphere to
accompany its vintage style. The Renaissance Revival brick exterior showcases
the hotel’s history, while the Spanish colonial interior is gorgeous and airy, with thick columns, wood
beams, and terrazzo floors. The comfortable lobby is further enhanced with a fireplace, and neutral-toned tufted furniture and muted area rugs for some plushness. Vintage details, including an antique chandelier, old-school typewriter, wood baby grand piano, and restored mahogany doors also decorate the stunning space. The on-site restaurant, Cassell’s
Hamburgers, has concrete floors and white subway tile for a classic look, in addition
to leather-topped barstools and big windows for a luminous effect. Wood chairs and tables, as well as flat-screen TVs also adorn the restaurant. The history, style, and convenient location of this property appeal to a range of tourists, including business travelers enticed by the meeting space, which has slick, black leather chairs and exposed brick for a living room feel.

Location

In Koreatown with restaurants, bars, and the Wiltern Theatre within walking distance

Off of Wilshire Boulevard in busy
Koreatown sits the Hotel Normandie LA. It’s east of the Miracle Mile and has
bars, restaurants, the Wiltern Theatre, and the metro within five to 10 minutes' walking distance.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Hollywood Bowl, and Staples Center are within a 10- to 15-minute drive (without traffic), as are the TCL Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Walk
of Fame. Los Angeles International Airport is about 30 to 40 minutes away.

Rooms

Contemporary yet vintage with hardwood floors, mini-fridges, and Starbucks coffee

Rooms have an updated, vintage design
with restored hardwood floors, patterned green and brown area rugs, and antique-style chairs with fresh, modern prints. Tan walls have framed photos and mounted 42-inch flat-screen TVs, while desk areas contain mini-fridges, free bottled water, and single-serve
Starbucks coffee for the coffeemakers. Suites have additional benefits, such as living areas with blue-gray sofa beds. Some rooms lack
convenient areas to store luggage, and have traffic and hallway noise.
Antique-style bathrooms are adorned in white penny-tile with shower/tub combos and pedestal
sinks, and have Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. Bathrooms in standard rooms lack
counter space, while suites have lovely old-fashioned wood tables with modern
square sinks.

Features

Good restaurant, free Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly policy

Other than the hotel's design, a main draw is Cassell’s Hamburgers, which receives good reviews for its burgers and fries, homemade potato salad, and Roquefort and thousand
island dressings. Concierge services, bell staff, and free fiber-optic Wi-Fi
are on-site, and there are business services and a meeting room, but no business center.
Additionally, there is no on-site fitness center, but guests are offered free
access to the full service WilFit Sports Club, a two-minute walk from the
hotel. The hotel is pet-friendly; one dog less than 25 pounds is
allowed per room.
