The Hollywood Orchid Suites is not much to look at from the outside: the cement building on a quiet, dead-end street could seem sketchy, but that’s not the case. While the hotel offers only the essentials, it is clean and welcoming. The furniture throughout has a lucky-find quality, and there is no overarching aesthetic. The small lobby area has a few simple chairs, and overlooking the entranceway is a small mezzanine where a free continental breakfast is served. The heated pool is a moderate size and has a few plastic chaise lounges around it. The rooftop garden is more welcoming, with tables, chairs, lounges, and an array of potted plants and flowers. Longer-term guests and travelers on a budget are drawn to the basic amenities and convenient locale.

The hotel is in the heart of Hollywood, near tons of bars, restaurants, and shopping. It’s a heavy tourist area and there’s plenty to see within walking distance, including the Dolby Theater (where the Academy Awards are held), the Roosevelt Hotel (where the first Academy Awards were held), and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The hotel is also near the Hollywood/Highland metro stop, providing efficient access to other parts of town. Los Angeles in general is known for its bad traffic, and the Hollywood area suffers especially, making the attractions within walking distance all the more appealing.

Converted from apartments, the rooms at the Hollywood Orchid are spacious and almost all have full kitchens with microwaves, stoves, and dishware. The only exception to this is the Junior level rooms, which have a small kitchenette that includes a mini-fridge and single-burner stove. Bathrooms are plain, but come with bath products. All rooms are non-smoking and have at least one TV.
