This 160-room hotel within a 10-minute walk of both Hollywood Bowl and Hollywood Boulevard is a
clean, mid-range option. Rooms are modern if a bit generic, and guests on lower floors may experience some traffic noise at night. Property features include a small outdoor pool, a restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, a bar with happy hour specials, and a 24-hour snack shop. It's a decent value, aside from its
high fee for valet parking – though families may prefer the nearby Magic Castle for its weekend all-ages magic shows, and the Loews Hollywood Hotel has great views and more features often for only slightly higher rates.
Scene
Simple and chain-like, with a few nostalgic touches
Clean, bright,
and whimsically infused with touches of Hollywood nostalgia, the Hilton Garden
Inn Los Angeles/Hollywood delivers convenience for business and leisure travelers alike. Formerly the Hollywood Heights Hotel, the property was turned
into a Hilton in 2012. From the outside, the property blends in with the
surrounding chain hotels and strip malls, but after walking into the lobby you'll find a
twist on the typical Hilton Garden Inn design; imagery of
famous Hollywood landmarks and signs are a nod to the location. You’ll also find the hotel’s own
Madam Tussaud wax museum figure of Whoopie Goldberg, a popular spot for guests
to snap a selfie. The hotel’s common area contains plenty of seating options,
as well as a small fireplace that is lit in the colder months, making for a
handy meeting spot before a day of sightseeing. Families tend to gather at the
outdoor pool and convenient on-site restaurant, while The Hideout lounge provides
a grown-up haven for couples and even draws non-guests after events at the Hollywood Bowl.
Location
Busy location within walking distance of major tourist sites
Located just off
a busy freeway, guests can expect typical L.A. traffic when making their way to
the Hilton Garden Inn. The surrounding block offers a Starbucks, mini market,
dry cleaner, and several dining options. Once guests arrive, though, the hotel
makes for an effortless home base from which to sightsee. Guests will find
themselves within walking distance of popular destinations such as The
Hollywood Bowl (six minutes on foot), Hollywood Boulevard (10 minutes), Dolby Theater (10 minutes), Capitol Records (17 minutes), and the Chinese Theatre (11 minutes). The hotel is also only a short drive from both Universal
Studios and Warner Brothers Studios.
Rooms
Modern, if generic, rooms with microwaves and mini-fridges, though traffic noise may be a problem
The 160 have generic chain style, with modern wood veneer furniture, white bedding, and the occasional decor flourish such as an accent wall or piece of framed artwork. The true age of the rooms is apparent in details such as the popcorn ceilings, however. They are are two rooms types: Standard King Rooms (294 square feet) and Double Queen Rooms (308 square feet).
All rooms offer Keurig coffeemakers, MP3 alarm clocks, microwaves, mini-fridges,
flat-panel HD TV, and large desks. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos and Neutrogena bath products. The Hilton’s Serta
Perfect Sleeper Beds are comfortable, but some guests report issues with the
bed frames fitting improperly. Rooms located on lower floors or facing Highland
Avenue risk sounds of traffic at night – for a better chance at a restful
sleep, request a room on a higher floor facing the back of the hotel.
Features
A small outdoor pool, an on-site restaurant and bar, and spaces for meetings and events
The hotel offers a solid range of features for this price point, though it's worth noting that the only slightly pricier Loews offers a spa, while the nearby Magic Castle Hotel offers access to the magic shows and performances at the private Magic Castle club. The Hilton Garden Inn has a small outdoor pool with plenty of shaded seating, as well as
a heated whirlpool. For those looking to sweat more, the hotel also offers free weights and cardio machines with individual TVs in the small fitness center. The business center is equipped with audiovisual equipment,
express mail services, and free printing. For events and meetings, the hotel
offers a private dining room and a large, general-purpose boardroom. The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet with made-to-order eggs and pancakes (for a fee) as well as dinner, the Hideout lounge has happy hour specials, room service is available, and there is a 24-hour snack and sundries shop. Valet parking is the only
option for guests with cars, and is fairly pricey.
