Classy yet understated, the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills is tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood just blocks from exclusive Rodeo and Robertson Drives, yet it still feels serene. The hotel has 285 beautifully decorated rooms -- each with French doors and private balconies, plus iPads and ultra-cushy beds. There is a marked focus on doing things al fresco, thanks to the property's open-air restaurant/lounge and 24-hour fitness center, and fabulous outdoor heated pool with cafe and private cabanas. The on-site restaurant and bar are also popular with the glitterati. For something more modern (but more expensive) the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills opened in 2017.
Scene
Luxury chain hotel with an al fresco focus
Without ever leaving the property, guests can get a full Hollywood experience -- this is often the hotel of choice for celebrities, and it also frequently hosts press junkets and pre-awards ceremony prep. There's even a life-size Marilyn Monroe statue by the front entrance. Staff welcome guests by name upon arrival in the marbled lobby, adorned with stunning floral arrangements by a dedicated florist (the lobby even smells amazing). Common spaces capitalize on the sunny California climate by being fully outdoors or at least having open-air capabilities. The vibe is relaxed-luxury: posh weddings are a regular occurrence, and the gardens and grounds offer many areas for gatherings. Strict policies protect the privacy of all patrons, so guests may want to hold off on taking photos. Guests also include families and business travelers.
Location
On a quiet stretch of Doheny Drive
Located on Doheny Drive near the shopping of Robertson Avenue, the hotel is not far from Rodeo Drive, and is accessible to the Sunset Strip. The area immediately surrounding this hotel is actually very private (making it perfect for celebrities who are trying to check in/out without drawing major attention). Even for the non-celeb set, however, the convenient location and quiet residential neighborhood are perks, since there is very little street noise, and the neighborhood is pedestrian-friendly -- there's ample sidewalk space and the area is safe for walking. - Seven-minute drive to Rodeo Drive's iconic shopping and restaurants
Rooms
Elegant and inviting -- with private balconies
The 285 rooms at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills are not overwhelmingly opulent for a luxury hotel -- on purpose. The goal seems to be serenity over swank, with a focus on warm colors and many fresh floral accents. Beds are super-comfortable with high-quality linens, and robes and slippers are available. There are modern amenities, like large flat-screen TVs (in bedrooms and bathrooms), Nespresso machines, minibars, Bose alarm clocks with iPod docking stations, and iPads that can be used for inter-hotel communications and reservations. In-room Wi-Fi is free. The bathrooms are spacious and include shower/tub combos and high-end Bvlgari toiletries. For the best views of the Hollywood sign and the Hills from private balconies, ask for a high floor -- some rooms feature a set of gold binoculars. Turndown service is a nice touch.
Features
Fabulous outdoor pool, full-service spa, and 24-hour open-air gym
Features are chic and focused on the outdoors. The heated pool on the fourth floor, with a poolside cafe and private cabanas, is the perfect place for a leisurely day in the sun. The top-notch spa offers a variety of treatments (available in poolside cabanas), as well as a steam room and full nail salon. The 24-hour open-air fitness center (also features enclosed spaces) is well-stocked with modern equipment; there are also headphones, water, and fresh fruit. Culina offers a delicious Italian menu including a raw bar; it's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with formal dining available under modern chandeliers or a more relaxed meal served on the outside patio. The upscale Windows Lounge is also a great place to grab a cocktail and stargaze (literally and figuratively), and offers live music on weekends. Room service is available 24 hours. There are muffins and fruit, as well as coffee and tea available in the lobby every morning gratis. Valet parking costs extra, and there are luxury house cars with chauffeurs available for trips within two miles of the hotel. Events are often held in the expansive ballroom, dedicated outdoor gardens, and the Orchid Room.
