Bottom Line

The five-room Cinema Suites is a value
bed and breakfast in a residential area within walking
distance of Hollywood attractions and restaurants. Each of the four rooms and the private Guest House has its own design,
but all have antique appeal and furnishings, air-conditioning, and granite bathrooms. Some rooms have tube-style TVs and only showers, though, and
housekeeping is weekly. The free breakfast includes assorted hot and cold items, and Wi-Fi and parking are free -- though spaces are limited and guests must
park next door or on the street. Guests willing to pay a bit more for more modern surrounds -- and free wine and cheese -- could try the boutique Elan Hotel Los Angeles in West Hollywood.

Scene

An antique bed and breakfast with tons of character

The vintage-style Cinema Suites resides
inside a 1920s cream-colored house, which has a mellow, family-like atmosphere -- the owner lives on the premises but is relatively hands-off.
Asian art pieces as well as green and red tile adorn the entrance, while the cozy living room is an eclectically decorated space filled with antique wood furnishings, gilt-framed paintings, Asian art pieces and vases, and a stone fireplace flanked by bronzed antique sconces. The breakfast room is more cleanly decorated with
an ornate, crystal chandelier and colorful oil painting setting off pale blue walls and antique wood floors and furniture. While filled with character, some of the common areas are a touch musty and dimly lit -- so are perhaps not suited to those seeking sleeker, modern surrounds. Many shrubs and plants cover
the grounds, and there is some outdoor seating available on a stone patio.

Location

Central, residential area where much is within walking distance

The property sits in a residential area on busy Fairfax Avenue, within walking distance of restaurants and cultural attractions. The Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum
of Art, La Brea Tar Pits, and various restaurants are within about a half-mile -- under a five-minute walk. The Miracle Mile, The Grove, and Beverly Center Shopping Mall are less than a
10-minute drive away. The Hollywood Bowl and Hollywood Walk of Fame are
15 to 20 minutes from the hotel, and Los Angeles International Airport is a 20-minute
drive without traffic.

Rooms

Individually decorated vintage style with air-conditioning and private granite bathrooms

Each room at the Cinema Suites feels private
and is individually decorated with patterned rugs over tile or hardwood floors,
antique or wicker furniture, and chandeliers in many rooms. Mixtures of colors
and textures flow together, and all rooms use space efficiently. The overall look is a mix of antique glamour and easygoing bed and breakfast, with touches like ornate gilt mirrors and slick Asian-inspired lamps setting off cozy textiles. All rooms have
air-conditioning and 37-inch TVs with HBO, while some rooms have balconies or
patios with potted plants and seating. The Guest House also includes a kitchen
area with mini-fridge and microwave, along with a large bathroom. Private bathrooms include gray granite floors, black- and silver-tiled showers, white pedestal sinks, and free Spa Green toiletries. Weekly housekeeping is included, but guests can have daily maid service for a fee. Some showers are dark, and some rooms have tube-style TVs.

Features

Free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking, plus a great location and unique style

Since this is a bed and breakfast property, there aren't many on-site features, and the property's biggest draws are its antique vibe and super-convenient location. That said, the grounds are an added bonus, as there is seating on a stone patio. Free breakfast is tasty and includes eggs any style, yogurt, fresh fruit, English muffins and bread with honey and jam, oatmeal, orange
juice, and organic coffee. There is free Wi-Fi, and free limited parking is available next door or on the street.
