The 90-room Best Western Plus LA Mid-Town Hotel is a value hotel in bustling Koreatown within a short drive of attractions for tourists and business travelers. Guest rooms are modern and spacious, with comfy beds, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges, and some have excellent views of the Hollywood Sign or downtown Los Angeles; some have loud street noise, though. Features include free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi, plus a shop with snacks, and limited on-site parking. It may be worth comparing rates with Ramada Los Angeles/Downtown West, which has a small gym and outdoor pool -- though its neighborhood is a bit seedy at night.
Scene
A modern and clean value hotel with cozy touches and a relaxing feel
The Best Western Plus LA Mid-Town Hotel occupies a somewhat shabby red-brick building on the corner of a busy intersection. Although the building is showing some age, there are nicely kept plants and shrubs, as well as a unique stone fountain at the entrance, all indicative of the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere throughout the property. Guests enter through the parking garage, where there are charming potted plants to brighten things up a bit. Inside, the lobby is contemporary, with back-lit brown- and white-striped walls, against which sit potted plants along the white tile floors. The space is bright and clean, with recessed ceiling lighting, brown leather couches, elegant red curtains, a painting of a woodsy setting, and an antique map of the world. The large breakfast room is simple and clean, with corporate-style green vinyl chairs and black tables, and walls painted nicely in pale green, gray, and cream; the tidy breakfast buffet area consists of dark wood cabinets and white countertops, lit by cute, vaguely retro white lamps. Guests include tourists and business travelers who tend to grab breakfast and then quickly head out for the day -- the helpful staff and multitude of tourist brochures in the lobby can help guests navigate the city.
Location
In busy Koreatown, a short drive from sights and walking distance from the Metro
The Best Western Plus LA Mid-Town Hotel sits on a busy corner in Koreatown, about five minutes' walk from the Wilshire/Vermont Metro Station. There's a strip mall with restaurants across the street, along with a drug store and liquor store. For both business travelers and tourists, there are many advantages to staying here. Within a 10- to 15-minute drive are numerous sights and conveniences, including the Staples Center, Los Angeles Convention Center, Universal Studios Hollywood, Dodger Stadium, and Union Station. Los Angeles International Airport is a half-hour drive.
Rooms
Big, contemporary rooms with mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers
Guest rooms are generally spacious and clean, and feel surprisingly modern. Walls are painted in elegant shades of brown and cream, providing a nice backdrop for crisp, white and red bedding, striped armchairs, dark wood furnishings, and brownish-patterned carpeting. Each room has a mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, and flat-screen TV, as well as a wood desk with an office chair, and individually controlled air-conditioning and heating. Some rooms have wonderful views of the Hollywood Sign or downtown Los
Angeles; however, other rooms suffer
loud street noise. There are nicely lit vanities outside the bathrooms, which are simple and mostly white, with shower/tub combos and San
Francisco Soap Company toiletries.
Features
Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, in addition to parking and gift shop
Many guests mention the free breakfast -- with waffles, baked goods, cereal, fruit, coffee, and juice -- as a major plus. There’s
also a gift shop on-site that’s well stocked with drinks, snacks, toiletries,
and trinkets. Free Wi-Fi is offered, and there are a business center and basic, though nicely lit, meeting room. Additionally, there is on-site parking, but spaces
are limited, and when the lot reaches capacity, guests must park at the church
across the street.
