Bottom Line

The upscale Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach is a 138-room hotel in a convenient location for exploring attractions in Long Beach. It's near the aquarium and Convention Center, and there are multiple restaurants, shops, and museums within walking distance. Rooms are modern, with massive flat-screen TVs and iPod docks, and guests rave about the sleek showers with solid water pressure. Parking is not ideal, however, as guests must park in the garage across the street and there's no valet. But cars aren't really needed since so much is within walking distance, and the free Passport Shuttle will take guests to places farther afield. The rooftop pool is popular and has great views of the city.

Scene

This upscale hotel has a spacious lobby and multiple seating areas.

The Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach is a 138-room hotel located in an open-air shopping mall on the waterfront of Long Beach. The outside of the seven-story hotel is white and tan with green awnings, and is surrounded by several tall palm trees. Inside, the dark stone floor of the spacious lobby is offset by a wall of revolving mirrors. Several seating areas encourage guests to gather. There are additional seating areas on an exterior courtyard off the lobby. The atmosphere is laid-back and professional, but there is a beach vibe as well.

Location

Convenient location near the aquarium and Convention Center

Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach is a 30-minute drive from LAX, about a 15-minute drive from the Long Beach Airport, and about 40 minutes from the John Wayne Airport in Orange County, depending on traffic. The immediate area around the hotel is mostly apartment complexes and condos, as well as shopping, dining, and tourist attractions. The Aquarium of the Pacific is a five-minute walk from the hotel, and the Convention Center is about 10 minutes away on foot. The Long Beach Museum of Art and the Museum of Latin American Art are both about a five-minute drive away. The area is clean and safe during both the day and at night. The location is convenient to the 710 freeway, close to all of the rest of Long Beach, as well as Santa Monica and the surrounding beaches. You can also get to L.A. (without traffic) in about 20 minutes. The Red Passport Shuttle will take guests to nearby places in Long Beach such as Belmont Shore, Naples Island, and the campus of Long Beach State University. The shuttle runs every 15 to 20 minutes and is free.

Rooms

Modern, upscale rooms with great showers

Rooms are modern and attractive with crisp linens, white Italian cotton bed coverings, sleek, clean-lined furnishings, minibars with Dean & Deluca snacks, and coffeemakers. They also have large flat-screen TVs above work desks and iPod docks on the bedside tables. Bathrooms are sleek and feature walk-in showers with rainfall shower heads. Guests each get a free USA Today on weekdays, and Wi-Fi is free.

Features

Rooftop pool terrace, on-site restaurant for breakfast and dinner, and 24/7 fitness and business centers

The popular rooftop pool is surrounded by cushy lounge chairs, intimate seating nooks, and private cabanas with love seats and chairs. It looks out onto the city, and there's a full bar. The Bay Street Kitchen serves breakfast and regional farm-to-table small plates in the evening. Free Wi-Fi throughout the property is a welcome perk. The business center has computers and printers for guests to use 24/7, and the fitness center also is open 2/47 and features large windows for views of the courtyard. The hotel has five meeting rooms that can accommodate small groups. The meeting rooms are basic, but one opens onto the courtyard.
