From the see-through glass elevator to the funky central courtyard, Z Hotel Soho is packed with plenty of delightful design quirks. Dark wood paneling and black velvet sofas in the lobby make the space cozy, but it's small. Free apples at the reception desk help sweeten the deal though.An amalgamation of 12 original Georgian townhouses can be looked at in two ways: it can be either a charming architectural oddity with unique character, or a confusing maze of winding hallways and hidden corners. The open air central courtyard, which stretches across all floors and turns into a charming outdoor lounge area on the first floor, is certainly a creative use of space -- just beware the damp and cold come winter time.

Right off the busy Charing Cross Road, bordering some of London’s hottest districts
You can’t get a much better location for culture and nightlife; this hotel perches very conveniently on the borders of Soho, Chinatown, Covent Garden, and Cambridge Circus -- near theaters and bars. It’s loud and noisy, but on the plus side you’re close to plenty of things to do and see, as well as several different tube stations to whisk you away to wherever you need to go.

Functional with an edgy, modern design
The most notable aspect of Z Hotel Soho’s rooms is the sleek glass-walled bathrooms, which juxtapose well with the edgy mocha wood-and-black color scheme. However, with only frost separating you from the room while on the toilet or in the shower, this could be a boon or bust depending on whom you’re traveling with. The remainder of the room is small, unfortunately -- be prepared to adapt without wardrobes or safes, and luggage is meant to be stored under the bed. Rooms come with large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi.
