This is a centrally located, mid-range chain hotel in London’s West End near the Piccadilly Tube line. Guests are a two-minute walk
from the National Portrait Gallery and four-minutes' walk from the Apollo Theatre. 112 guest rooms are modern and pristine, but tiny. Perks include free Wi-Fi, Sky TV, and in-room coffee- and tea-making
facilities -- though some rooms don't have windows. Z Cafe sells gourmet coffees and snacks throughout the day, and free wine and cheese are served in the evenings. For a mid-range and stylish urban stay, Hotel Z
Piccadilly is notably cheaper than the nearby Thistle Piccadilly Hotel, which
is more spacious but somewhat dated.
Scene
A sleek and stylish hotel for couples
The
hotel entrance looks like a converted warehouse with large arched windows opening into an open-plan cafe. Guests enter from a grungy side street, just off the main strip of
Haymarket. The tall curved reception desk doubles as a cafe counter set with a bowl of free apples for the taking. The tiled walls, assortment of chairs, and large wooden share table create a community vibe. The color palate is mostly off-white with accents of lime green in some chair cushions and lamp shades. The hotel is geared to couples or singles with expensive taste on a budget; small guest rooms and a lack of privacy in the bathrooms doesn't appeal to families.
Location
Within walking distance of the Northern, Piccadilly, and Bakerloo lines
This is convenient stepping stone to Soho and London’s Theatre District. Guests are a five-minute walk to Leicester Square and the Piccadilly Tube which is a direct line to Heathrow
Airport. In the center of the West End, theaters including Her Majesty's
theatre, the Theatre Royal, and the Prince of Wales Theatre are all
within a two-minute walk. Embankment Pier is a 15-minute walk for guests wanting to take a boat along the River Thames. There are plenty of local restaurants available; most are full up
with tourists during the day and pre-theater enthusiasts in the early
evening. For nightlife Leicester Square is only a short walk from
the hotel as is Gordon's Wine Bar, which is well-known as the oldest
wine bar in London. Note that there isn't any parking available at the hotel but Titan Parking is only a two-minute walk away.
Rooms
Compact and clean with some thoughtful freebies
Rooms
are small and clean, and considering the post code, are reasonably
priced. The decor is akin to a masculine bachelor pad, with gray
and black tones, minimal furniture, and wood paneling. Glasswalls between the bedroom and bathroom help to extend the space but
don’t leave room for much privacy. Rooms are most suitable for
light travelers as no wardrobes are provided, though there are some
hangers for clothes on the wall. All rooms are equipped with large plasma flat-screens and free Sky
TV. In addition there's free Wi-Fi, filtered
water, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. As this building is a converted office block, Z Inside Double and Inside Queen Rooms have no windows. For a splash of extra cash Z Double and Queen Rooms afford guests a room with a window and more space. Six
wheelchair accessible rooms are available for guests on request.
Features
Z Cafe and free Wi-Fi
For guests looking for on-site activities, this isn't the right hotel.
There's no gym, meeting facilities, pool, or family features. The
entertainment lies on the hotel's doorstep with galleries, theaters, and
restaurants galore. The hotel has all the
basic overnight necessities covered including free Wi-Fi, Z Cafe, and free wine and cheese in the evenings. Z Cafe serves fresh sandwiches, salads, and warm savory eats for lunch and dinner. For a small fee the continental buffet breakfast includes a selection of cereals, fresh pastries, fruit and croissants, as well as the traditional english bacon roll.
