Clean, quiet, and well-located are the top three selling points of the mid-range Premier Inn London St Pancras Hotel.
The King’s Cross/St Pancras and Euston
underground stations are both within brief walks. Its 266 rooms are clean and
generously sized, and come with comfortable beds, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Given the busy street outside, it’s surprisingly quiet in the rooms and lobby. Amenities are somewhat limited, but there's a decent restaurant
and bar that serves comfort foods like burgers, pizzas, and steaks. A morning
breakfast buffet is available for an extra fee. As an alternative, the lower-middle-range
Alhambra Hotel has lower rates and includes a hearty, home-cooked breakfast.
Scene
A quiet, cheerful, and modern chain hotel for budget-conscious business travelers and tourists
This modern and clean hotel is part of the Premier Inn chain,
and it's full of bright and cheerful public spaces. Guests are greeted by bold
purple walls announcing Premier Inn’s “Good Night Guarantee.” The color is used
prominently on other walls, signage, hallway carpeting, and as trim for tan leather
sofas that rest along lobby walls. A trio of kiosks enables guests to express
check-in. Large, photographic wall murals of the nearby British Library and other
London landmarks are eye-catching and help adorn the space. The Thyme
restaurant and bar is a pleasant spot. Its painted light green and lavender, and there's lots of
space and several cozy and comfortable seating arrangements that provide
privacy. Given the busy street outside, this is a surprisingly quiet and comfortable
hotel. It attracts both business travelers and tourists who want to stay in
central London without busting their budgets.
Location
At busy King’s Cross, near two underground stations and The British Library
The Premier Inn is located on the very busy Euston Road in the
heart of King’s Cross, one of London’s central transport hubs. The road has
heavy traffic at all hours and is surrounded by large office buildings and
other hotels. The King’s Cross/St Pancras underground station is a five-minute
walk from the hotel, and the Euston Station is seven minutes on foot in the opposite
direction. Several restaurants are between the hotel and stations, with the
closest eateries being just one minute away. A pub and a Starbuck’s are adjacent
to the hotel. Notable attractions within walking distance include The British
Library (two minutes), The Brunswick shopping mall (eight minutes), and College
University London (nine minutes). Most of London’s top attractions can be
reached in 20 to 30 minutes via the tube, including Kensington Palace, British
Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, and the Tower
of London. Both airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) are approximately 45 to 60 minutes away. The closest overnight parking is a 10-minute walk, and it’s expensive.
Rooms
Clean and cheerful -- with rainfall showerheads, free Wi-Fi, and coffeemakers
Guest rooms are clean and generously sized by central London standards, and come in various configurations that include Single, Double, and Triple Rooms. Much like the hotel itself, the decor in the rooms is chain-like and cheerful, utilizing shades of purple, white, and light natural wood. Two
shades of purple are used for the solid carpet, bed throws, decorative pillows,
and padded headboards. The chaise lounges are also purple (some rooms have brown upholstered
armchairs instead). Walls are white, as are the duvets that cover the comfortable
Hypnos mattresses. Floral artwork hangs on the walls, for a splash of color. The matching light wood furniture includes desks, upholstered
desk chairs, side tables, bureaus, and wall panels that frame the
headboards with built-in nightstands. Standard amenities include coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and USB and various other media plug-ins at the desks. Bathrooms are a comfortable
size and are as bright as the rooms, with white ceramic tile walls with purple accents. White
ceramic vanities have shelf space for personal items, and the shower/tub combos
feature rainfall shower heads. A small amount of the rooms only have showers. Guests
consistently praise the rooms for being quiet despite the busy road below. Views of the surrounding office
buildings and street below are quite nice in some rooms. Note that bedroom windows don't open.
Features
Restaurant and lounge, meeting space, free Wi-Fi -- and a hot breakfast (for a fee)
Features at the Premier Inn are a bit limited, which is fine for most guests that want to spend their time out exploring. The Thyme restaurant and bar are the most attractive
features at hand. The restaurant serves
breakfast and dinner, but is closed for lunch. The focus is comfort
food like burgers, pizzas, and steaks. Breakfast options include a full hot
buffet. Breakfast is not included in standard room rates, but the hotel offers
a “Meal Deal” that provides breakfast and a dinner at modest rates. Meeting and
luggage storage space are available, as are valet dry cleaning and concierge
services. The front desk is staffed 24 hours and has a safe deposit box for guest
use. Express check in is offered at registration kiosks. Free Wi-Fi is
accessible throughout the hotel.
