The 48-room Mayflower Hotel & Apartments is an upper-middle-range boutique located on the west side of central London in easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. This hotel is also directly behind the Earl's Court tube station, making it particularly convenient for transit -- guests can reach most London hotspots in 30 minutes or less. In addition to the small and tasteful rooms in the main building, there's a separate building with one- and two-bedroom apartments. Rooms have wood floors, hand-carved headboards, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and marble bathrooms, but there's no air-conditioning and rooms facing the train station can be noisy. The nearby Amsterdam Hotel is a similar property, with more muted decor and in-room air-conditioning.
Scene
Boutique hotel in Central London with “East meets West” decor
Occupying a charming Victorian town house with a brick facade, white trim, elegant molded details, and intricate wrought-iron balconies, the Mayflower Hotel blends in seamlessly with the other buildings on a pretty street. The hotel's small lobby is simple and homey with white walls, white tiled floors, and rich wood furniture and wood details, such as an intricately carved art piece behind the reception desk. This aesthetic extends throughout the hotel, and while the decor can feel dated at times, it’s mostly tasteful and well-kept. The hotel’s location directly behind the Earl’s Court tube station makes it ideal for sightseers and tourists, though business travelers will benefit from the accessible location, too.
Location
Conveniently located in central London, a two-minute walk to the Earl’s Court tube station
Conveniently located in central London’s bustling Earl’s Court area on the west side of the city, the Mayflower Hotel sits on a relatively quiet and charming side street and shares the road with other hotels and residences. The back of the property faces Earl’s Court tube station, which is surrounded by shops, eateries, and bars. Because of the hotel’s proximity to the tube station, guests can connect to many London sights in 30 minutes or less.- Two-minute walk to Earl’s Court tube station
Rooms
Small rooms with hand-carved headboards, hardwood floors, and free Wi-Fi
Rooms at the Mayflower Hotel feature attractive decor including dark-wood Indonesian furniture, hand-carved headboards, and bright wall art that's unique from room to room, plus colorful velour textile accents. While the rooms vary in size and style, all are fairly small and feature hardwood floors, white walls, and tiled marbled bathrooms with walk-in showers. The smallest room is the compact 65-square-foot Single Rooms, while larger rooms, such as the Family Rooms, are still compact but have additional bunk beds and a separate desk area. All rooms include flat-screen TVs, safes, electric kettles, hairdryers, desks, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, fans, and individual Spa Therapy toiletries. Rooms are not air-conditioned, and most rooms don’t have mini-fridges. Some guests complain that basement rooms smell damp. Rooms at the back of the property can be noisy, as guests can hear both trains and announcements from the nearby tube station. Light sleepers should consider front-facing rooms. The larger one- and two-bedroom apartments are in a different location on Warwick Road, about a four-minute walk from the main part of the hotel. These apartments have larger rooms with kitchenettes, though this four-story building doesn't have an elevator.
Features
Free continental breakfast and stylish on-site cafe, but few other property features
A basic but tastefully decorated basement breakfast room with light wood floors, glass cafe tables, and a beige color scheme offers guests a simple, free continental breakfast with cereal, toast, fruit, cheese, and cold meat. A full English breakfast with hot items is available for an extra fee. The on-site lounge and cafe is more stylish with black wood accents, a vintage bird cage (with parrots inside!), and golden floor-to-ceiling curtains. The cafe offers a selection of coffees, teas, and blended juices during limited hours. A tasteful outdoor terrace with a stone patio and well-maintained greenery offers tables and chairs for guests to relax. Business guests can rent an on-site boardroom, which is equipped with technology such as a plasma TV as well as amenities such as flip charts and whiteboards. Printing, scanning, and faxing services are also available. While there are few other on-site property features, the hotel does offer a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, airport transfers, laundry and dry-cleaning services, concierge service, luggage storage, a guest computer, free morning newspapers, access to a nearby health or fitness club (by arrangement), and gated parking (for an extra fee). The hotel also has sustainable practices.
