The two-pearl London Guest House is a budget bed-and-breakfast with a homey atmosphere that’s located outside the bustle of the city center in Acton. The 18 private rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea/coffee facilities, and en-suite bathrooms. However, they don't provide much space apart from the beds. Hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking are all free -- a pretty good deal for outer London. It's a five-minute walk to North Acton tube stop, and then about 40 minutes on the train to London. For those who prefer to be closer to the city and don’t mind paying more per night, check out Hotel 65 which has an on-site restaurant.
Scene
Budget-friendly bed-and-breakfast with a homey vibe and welcoming staff
The London Guest House, although outside the city center, makes for an inviting and budget-friendly base for those visiting London. Opened in 2004, this bed-and-breakfast attracts an extremely mixed crowd who don’t mind taking the train to London to explore. The reception area is set up in the tiny foyer, and cramped with tourist brochures, brown leather chairs, and a mini-fridge with chilled drinks for sale. The warm and welcoming staff are happy to assist with recommendations. Available 24-hour reception is a nice gesture. Guests intermingle in the homey kitchen, which serves as the breakfast room and the small courtyard set with picnic tables and umbrellas.
Location
Located on the outskirts of London, a five-minute walk from the North Acton tube stop
Located in Acton, the London Guest House is on the far western outskirts of London. Travelers who don’t mind taking public transportation are best suited to stay at the property; the closest train stop is a five-minute walk away. The city center takes about a 30-minute drive or a 45-minute train ride to reach. As for the immediate area, there’s not many restaurants or shops on the surrounding streets. Heathrow Airport is a 30-minute drive away.
Rooms
Cozy rooms with flat-screen TVs, kettles, and mini-fridges
Guest rooms at London Guest House are available as Singles, Doubles, and Family Rooms, which sleep up to five people. The Family Rooms have wood bunk beds. The rooms are clean, though quite cramped, which isn’t uncommon for budget European hotel rooms. They’re done up in a colorful style with few embellishments. Maroon carpets, maroon bed accents and curtains, and blond wooden furniture make up simple room designs. It’s not particularly contemporary, but it is cheerful. Rooms aren’t equipped with air-conditioning, but they have flat-screen TVs, kettles, free Wi-Fi, and mini-fridges. En-suite bathrooms are small too, but more modern. These have gray tiles, small showers, and usually hairdryers. Toiletries are limited to hand soap; shampoo, body wash, and conditioner aren’t provided.
Features
Free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking
Personal service and free perks from London Guest House are definitely the most enticing things about a stay here. A free breakfast buffet of eggs, pastries, fruit, yogurt, and cereal is offered in the mornings. Other free amenities include Wi-Fi throughout and limited parking on-site. As a bed-and-breakfast, there’s few other amenities but the hotel sells sodas, water, and alcoholic drinks in the lobby. There's a lovely outdoor patio with tables, benches, and umbrellas.
