Scene

Sleek, contemporary design hotel with hints of history

The Caesar mixes contemporary, minimalist design with unique historical elements. The lobby is a mix of off-white walls and floors with black furnishings, including slim and modern leather couches and unusual chairs with cylindrical bases and thin, hard backrests. The walls are decorated with reproductions of ancient Roman mosaics, adding a touch of color and history to the space. The Caesar draws a mix of professional and leisure travelers, due in part to its location near Paddington Station and Hyde Park.

Location

Near Hyde Park and a 10-minute walk from Paddington Station

The Caesar is in the upscale Bayswater neighborhood of London. Quiet, wealthy, and predominantly residential, the surrounding area is clean and attractive, and there's a small garden for guest use. Hyde Park is just a few minutes walk away, and a little further leads to Oxford Circus and Bond Street. In the other direction, Notting Hill and Portobello Road is about a 15- to 20-minute walk. Paddington Station, which offers tube and regional rail accesss, is about a 10-minute walk, making The Caesar a convenient launching pad for exploring London and beyond. From Paddington,  the Heathrow Express ferries passengers to the airport in about 30 minutes.

Rooms

Compact, minimalist rooms with hardwood floors and exposed brick walls

The rooms at The Caesar are modern, like the common spaces. White walls and bedspreads keep the spaces bright, while dark wood laminate floors and furnishings give the rooms a sleek vibe. Single rooms are compact, with the beds tucked against the walls and little floor space between them and the narrow desks. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning; Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Superior Rooms offer slightly more space and better natural light, but are still snug. To get some breathing room, guests will need to upgrade to one of the Executive Rooms, which despite possible slanted ceilings, offer reading chairs and larger TVs. Like many of the rooms, bathrooms are small, but are nicely designed in a green and black tile. For larger groups or those with longer stays, the hotel has Family Rooms, which include kitchenettes.

Features

XO restaurant, 24-hour room service, and a fitness center

The XO restaurant is popular and serves a buffet breakfast with a selection influenced by the hotel's Spanish owners, though it costs extra. In the evening, the a la carte menu includes a mix of European favorites. The small attached bar serves light lunches as well as cocktails throughout the evening, and the hotel provides 24-hour room service. The Caesar has a small fitness center with clean and functional -- but not new -- cardio machines and a few free weights. The gym also has a small sauna and massage shower. For business guests, there's a meeting room with audiovisual equipment.
