Originally built as a private residence in 1851, the Georgian House was converted to a luxury boutique bed and breakfast in 1950, and remains in operation today. The hotel offers 62 rooms with a mix of classic and modern styles, and is made of two adjoining houses: the Georgian House, where guests check in, and the Bower House, where guests enjoy fully furnished flats. While located on a quiet street in Victoria, the Georgian House is conveniently close to both underground stations and popular tourist spots. There is no shortage of hotel alternative in the area. For historical architecture, an elevator, and guaranteed in-room Wi-Fi, it's worth considering the similarly priced Windermere Hotel.
Scene
Modern twist on a historic Victoria townhouse
Guests are in for a pleasant surprise upon arrival at the Georgian House, nestled in the neighborhood of Victoria among other period houses. The interior decor is a pleasant mix of modern and traditional. Look to the intimate entrance and reception area, and guests are welcomed by a gray and yellow color scheme, painted portraits, and a traditional club feel. Look to the rooms, and the bold colors and contemporary decor, including faux light-up taxidermy and floral pom pom throw pillows, transport guests through a mashup of eras.
Location
In Victoria, with close proximity to popular tourist destinations, shopping, and local transit
The bed and breakfast is conveniently located in Victoria, about a 10-minute walk from Victoria Station, Pimlico Station, Victoria Palace Theatre, and Apollo Victoria Theatre. The popular tourist sights of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the Houses of Parliament are just over 20 minutes by foot. Harrods is also just over a 20-minute walk, or visitors can take the tube. From Heathrow Airport, it's 30-minute drive or an hour train ride on the Picadilly line. Taking trains or cabs to get around is recommended over a car rental -- the central location of Georgian House makes driving largely unnecessary.
Rooms
Rooms blend traditional and contemporary touches; some
All 62 rooms at the Georgian House Hotel are unique. Some rooms are dressed in old-fashioned floral wallpaper, and include original fireplaces and moldings, while another has black and white stripes, and equestrian handle mugs. Most have contemporary elements (modern furniture, bright color accents) fused with traditional touches such as plaid prints, toile, or faux deer heads. Guests should expect to find a desk, flat-screen TV, and a tea and coffee station in each room. Free Wi-Fi and room safes are not standard in every room, and air-conditioning is unavailable throughout the rooms.Rooms range from singles to full apartments. A fun option for families is the Wizard Chamber, a Harry Potter-themed room with potion bottles, traveller trunks, and cauldrons. Guests should be aware that some rooms are dorm-style, with shower rooms are located outside for the use of multiple guests. The Belgravia Rooms, however, are set up with a private bedroom, bathroom, and living area. Separate from, but close to the main building, are the apartments, which include kitchens.
Features
Few offerings aside from the made-to-order breakfast
If a pool or spa is necessary, visitors should look elsewhere. The Georgian House is a space for those looking for comfortable housing in a historic and convenient locale. Within the hotel, there is a small gift shop, a 24-hour reception desk, and a dining area, which serves made-to-order breakfast daily and includes cute courtyard seating. Overnight parking is free of charge, and there is a car park nearby for parking throughout the day (but guests should know that a car is often unnecessary).
