Bottom Line

A 41-room boutique hotel with generous amounts of space, the Halkin exudes luxury -- from its distinctive Italian-cum-Asian interior design to its marble bathrooms with deep soaking tubs. Sumptuous and spacious guest rooms literally offer convenience at the touch of a button, as all have wall consoles for calling the butler and other services. Even the location is upscale, as the property stands in the tony Belgravia district and is just a two-minute walk from Buckingham Palace. Guests also have access to the spa at famed sister hotel The Metropolitan, since the Halkin does lack amenities such as a spa and pool.

Scene

Spacious luxury boutique with an exquisite interior design

The single most distinguishing factor of the Halkin is its distinctive design, which is characterized by a mixture of Italian and East Asian elements infused with understated luxury. A simple Georgian exterior gives way to an expansive lobby with marble countertops and exquisite mosaic floor tiling. Each of the five floors of the hotel is themed after an element, with different color schemes used to represent water, air, fire, earth, and lastly, sky, as you proceed from bottom to top. Even the hallways are unique, as they are imbued with an aura of mystery, thanks to corrugated, slate-colored wood paneling that sweeps in a single curve along the length of the hotel. The hotel promotes an "expansion of space" concept that extends into its airy rooms. Pleasant neutral tones are paired with wools, silks, and linen textiles to create an elegant, homey feel.
